QP There are numerous special elective courses in the English schedule of classes. These include speech, de- bate team, drama, journalism, and for selected students the ALMANAC and POST staffs, A11 of these courses enable the student to develop his spe- cial talents either through oral expres- sion or written communication. ln addition, there is the effective reading course which is especially beneficial to the college bound student because it provides him the opportu- nity to increase both his reading rate and comprehension.

A, Mrs. Marjorie Christensen Assistant Librarian Mrs. Ruth Lernery Assistant Librarian 28 LIBRARY An integral part of the average stu- dent's life at Franklin High School is the library. Various materials are provided to supplement classroom work, to aid in the completion of as- signments, and to enhance hobbies and free reading. The library maintains an average of about 14, OOO volumes which are continually supplemented with the latest editions, ln addition to the reference books and novels, over 1OO periodicals of current and past issue with hundreds of pamphlets are available to the enterprising student. Furthermore, a collection of filmstrips and records is available to teachers who wish to borrow them to enhance their classroom programs. The library is maintained to serve all of the students and faculty at Franklin. Mrs. Norlin, head librar- ian, and her two capable assistants, Mrs. Christensen and Mrs. Lemery are always available and willing to help the students at any time.
