Jonathan W' Edwards, Superlntendent of Schools Mr jonathan Uackj Edwards, Supermtendent of Schools, came to Portland 1n 1924 For tlurtyf s1x years he has de voted his life to Portland schools His fust Job was as h1s'tory teacher and coach at L1ncoln Hrgh School from 19 2-1 to 1927 at thls time, he was transferred to Grant Hlgh School as head of the H1story Department Bachelor of Arts Degree from Whltman College in 1917, and Master of Arts Degree from Uruversxtyf of Oregon mn 1932 Mr Edwards was promoted to the posxtion of assistant supermtendent in 1936 and was appomted deputy supermtendent in 1944 In 1953, he was elected Supermtendent of Schools As Supermtendent, he is responslble for approximately S100 OOO OOO worth of assets belongxng to the CIUZSHS 1n our school disuuct. Under his authorlty, the d1su'1ct annually spends ln excess of S25 OOO, OOO He 15 also responsible for the work of 5, OOO certxfmcated and non C6!'t1flC3t6d employees 6 1 Q K O o He received an honorary Doctor of Education Degree in 195-1 from Whitman College.
