fn M ' lie thou faithful unto death . . . Not until the final word was written and the last column added up did she lay aside her task. The enduring spirit of her lives on, a beacon light to those who follow. As is usual with great characters, she disliked publicity. Her recompense was in boosting others to the top of the ladder. But the visible, concrete fruit of her labors pays well-deserved recognition to a rare teacher. For many years Miss Pauline McElvain served in her classroom at Franklin. In her early teaching days, she coached students in dramatics and directed the class plays. One of her chief joys was athletics. studied in France to become better elusive case-endings and declensions Top honors were reaped by both efforts. The Post owes her a debt Thorough in all that she did, Miss Mclilvain versed in the language which she taught. The of Latin also were tamed by her guiding hand. typing and shorthand teams through her tireless of gratitude, as she enabled it to collect several hundred dollars in back payments. And before she left, she balanced the school budget to the last cent. Unwilling to accept defeat, Miss Mclilvain was at her post of duty when critically ill. But it was not defeat. It was merely the end of her task. With her passing last summer, the school lost a gracious friend and considerate counselor. Faithful to the smallest job and loftiest duty-there is no higher tribute. Thus the book of her life was closed, with all accounts balanced.
