We Become More Appreciative of the Arts Through Music Mr. Barton We Become Better Balanced, Physically and Mentally, Through Health and Physical Education The health and physical education de- partment strives to build physical abilities and control by providing a rich program of many activities that help develop neuro- muscular skills. Physical education also teaches fair play and teamwork. Through health instruction continued emphasis is placed upon personal hygienic habits with regard to care of the body, nails, hair, skin, teeth, eyes, ears, nose, throat, and feet. Music is one of the oldest and most important of man ' s arts. It is all around us. Great is the power of music. It may soothe or enchant; it is an international language; it provides an escape to a dream world. Mr. Barton strives to awaken in each student cultural appre- ciation for music. By exercise, drills, and hard practice, he has attained much success with his students.

We Become Better Acquainted With Others Through Languages and Social Studies The study of foreign languages helps in promoting international good-feeling and understanding. Miss Eubank teaches Latin I and II. These courses give the student an opportunity to learn of the classics and culture of ancient Rome. Mr. Vess teaches French I and II. This gives the student an opportunity to learn the customs of a modern country. Miss Eubank Mr. Vess Mrs. Beale Mrs. Ledford Mr. Versprille A major objective of the social studies program is the development of fundamental concepts concerning the economic, social, and cultural life of the people through exploring the com- munity as well as other sources of in- formation. Mrs. Beale, Miss Eubank, Mrs. Ledford, and Mr. Versprille have strived to make this objective a reality.

We Become Better Homemakers Through Home Economics Mrs. Riddick The study of Home Economics teaches a student the fundamental principles of foods and homemaking. These students, supervised by Mrs. Riddick, lea rn to make their homes, as well as themselves, more attractive. We Become More Efficient and Better Prepared for Practical Work Through Shop and Commercial Courses Class work in the commercial courses and practical problems in office procedure prepare the student to take his place in the business world. Bookkeeping classes, taught by Mrs. Dar- den, teach the student to keep his employer ' s book correctly and to balance a budget. Typing I and II, taught by Mrs. Darden and Mrs. Eley, emphasize speed and accuracy. An important aim of this department is to offer practical training for future use in the bus- iness world. Emphasis is placed on industrial arts as basic training for future voca- tions as well as a means of developing simple tool skills and mechanical abilities useful in the home, school, and avoca- tion al life of the pupil.
