Sneak Dag The seniors and their sponsors snuck on Friday April 11 1947 They left at 5 15 a m rn a bus chartered from Yellow Diamond Bus Lines of Has trngs Although we left at 5 15 it is reported that several were ready to go at 3 30 and others vxere 'wvxakened by the beeping of horns one Chevy rn particular They arrived at Ingleside at 7 00 o clock and from there went on to Has trngs where they ate breakfast The first stop in Lincoln was the State Penr tentrary Next stop was at the State Capitol where they visited the Senate Chambers where the class was introduced by Senator Garber Governor s offices top tower story where all of Lincoln was viewed and made a general sightseeing tour' of the building. After dinner they visited Morrill Hall and the University of Nebraska campus and they watched the printing of the Lincoln State Journal. Everyone did as they pleased from 3 00 p rn to 5:45 p. rn. After we had gathered again at the bus with the exception of Edvx ard S and Keith C.. we toured the city until 7:30. Q After supper the group divided and did var Dhcfo 7' ious things-window shopping attending shows ' went bowling or just walked. Ex eryone was ready u to go by 11:15. Several had been sleeping before Every one except Wilbur who trusts no ones driving but his own slept. Keith C. found the lug gage racks more comfortable than the seats ,qu which were slightly overcrowded. How about rt It was 4:30 when we arrived rn Franklm making it a full twenty-four hour trip before hitting the hay. Very few were up before ten o'clock on Saturday 'ind several are reported to . 4 'Y -V' fw- Q f aw Nf a X aww The annual Jumor Senlor Ba 'lquet held ul the Hlgh School audltorlum Aprxl 18 was based or' the theme Plrates Upon entermg the audltorxum the senlors zvere presented flowers and served ale from a barrel dlsplayed on a bar They entered the banquet room over a gang plank through streamers of black and whxte crepe paper and were seated at three long tables placed ln an open square begxrdmg a huge mast of a shlp The stage depleted a shlp borne on the hlgh seas and a deserted seashore upon wh1ch had been washed an old rusty treasure chest Dim lights penetratlng three plrate skulls and paper streamers lent an atmosphere of an eerle voyage Waxed beer bottles holdmg candles and alternately spaced treasure chests formed centerpleces on the tables Sword place cards and treasure chest nut cups added to the decoratlon On the speaker s table rested a large ship The menu conslsted of Tolly Roger Slum gulleon PIECES of exght plrates de l1ght wlth Galley gravy skull salad hard tack nd gold nugget topped off wlth the essence of paradlse Wlth sea foam and a flagon of ale and sea water Toastmaster D1ck Austln lntroouced the toasters Wllbur Slndt Barbara Fruh l1ng Bob Ingran' Bessle Laux and Mrs Betty Grlffln whose toplcs were Sallmg Anchors Itlnera y L1ghf.hOllS6 and Storms The guests were entertalned with a trombone solo by Earl DeJonge and a duet by Gene and Audrey Yelken The coronatlon of the Klng and Queen preceded the Junlor Senior Prom WhlCh followed the banquet The Juniors led the processlon formmg an axsle of crossed swords through wh1ch the senlors marched followed by the Kmg and Queen who took the1r place on the throne before the stage A roll of the drums and a bugle fanfare preceded the announcement of the coronatlon Lorrame John on was crowned Queen and Earl DeJonge was crowned Klng A bouquet of flowers was presented to the Queen by the Alumm Assoclatlon Harry Collms and h1s orchestra furmshed the muslc for the grand march and the dance wh1ch followed Jumor Semor 'Banquet ai J X X N N X . .
