JOSEPH COLLEY Department Chairman Council MISS MARY PAT CALLAHAN French I and II, Ad- visor, Modern Language Club Language, a bridge of human understanding, is geared to the concept of world wide unity. Franklin's language teachers strive to teach students not only a written knowledge of a foreign language but to focus the attention on the spoken language and the culture of the foreign country. Recently in Baltimore County, a new course was introduced. In this course, students of the third and fourth years are taught the literary aspects of the particular language which they are studying. They read short stories, novels, and plays written in the various languages. An outstanding feature of our school is the language laboratory, which enables students to increase their fluency, to correct errors, and to pattern their speech after that of native speakers.
