The English department introduces students to the fundamental skills of speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Each succeeding course is built on the skills learned in preceding studies. In the tenth grade, the students mastered basic writing techniques and studied world literature through short stories, novels, and dramas. The eleventh graders studied American literature and critical writing and developed their own styles of writing. Seniors continued the work begun in the tenth and eleventh grades, with emphasis on English literature. In conjunction with their studies, the Seniors attended the movies Hamlet and Macbeth.
