MRS. HOFFMAN MRS. KERSEY AOB 40? . 86,66 O Guidance The Guidance Department is concerned with aiding the student to develop self-understanding and maturity. Mrs. Hoffman, Mr. Straub, and Mr. Sherwood, the counselors, assist the students in evaluating their interests, abilities, and achievements. Mrs. Kersey is the guid- ance secretary. The work of the department varies with each grade. Freshmen are introduced to the senior high programg sophomores are told of the standards necessary to meet their tentative goalsg juniors are helped to visualize their places in society and to prepare for that place. Finally, seniors are given help in planning for college or for careers. The work of the Guidance Department does not end with the senior's graduation. Graduates and drop-outs are studied in a follow-up program which enables the department to measure the effectiveness of Franklin's total educational program.

Franklin's library, containing more than 7000 books, is considered to be one of the most outstanding and attractive features of the school. The librarians, Miss Martha Camp- bell and Miss Carol Hickman, aided by the library secretary, Mrs. Annie Fringer, acquaint the students with the library facilities and with many interesting books found there. They also try to keep the library up-to-date by constantly expanding the book and magazine selection. The library is used by the students for reference work or free-reading before and after school and during study periods. I am what I know.
