O Three of our Very First Friends, O Best Beloved, do we dedicate this Book of Inciting Adventures: because, you see, it was they who were 'ticularly 'tentiye to us during our four years' journey down the great gray-green greasy Limpopo River. Their names, O Best Beloved, are Min Ethel A. Pmzfom, Miers C. Lozzire Tijblon, Mr. Cowzelim E. Giwiel.

How the 1940 Dial go! iff 'ticular fzjfle T isn't exactly a Gargantuan feat, but yet it isn't every school that can put out a yearbook equal to the F. H. S. Dial. It takes 'nitiative, an' courage, an' more work than even we 'spected it would. But to satisfy the 'satiable curtiosity of all you people interested in our school and its functions, 1940 again decided to come forth with a yearbook, and so the Dial was written. And it isn't everybody who can 'rnagine to how much trouble the class of '40 went to copy Rudyard Kipling's style in their yearbook. That took a whole lot more 'nitiative an' courage-an' literary prowess, tool But the literary edi- tors wrote and wrote, and the art editors drew and drew, and the business man- agers solicited and solicited, and the typing editors typed and typed, and the faculty advisers worried and worried, and the Dial came forth. And it isn't every class who can get hold of such good advisers as Miss Tip- ton and Miss Huttenhauer, and can find in its midst such good writers and painters and photographers and so forth, who can put together a book good enough to satisfy the 'satiable curtiosity of all you folks. But here it isl So put this book under your arm and Find a nice quiet corner and join us as we travel down through our school years with you. And you'll see just how we laughed and cried, how the boys just missed a basketball championship, and how our whole four years were spent. And as side attraction you'll see next year's class, and the year after, and the year after that. In fact, you'll see life at Franklin during these happy days of 1939-40. Now, O Best Beloved, get your book and come along!

Four -and now, O Best Beloved, our story begins. 'just So in B the High and Far-OH times the Freshmen, O Best Beloved, 'mgmm had very little knowledge. They had only a big, bulgy bump 'I known as the Bump of 'Satiable Curtiosity, and that means that they were so happily constructed that they Could Learn. And this Bump of 'Satiable Curtiosityj' O Best Beloved, iden- tilied them from all other freshmen classes fthe smooth bump- less kindy and Hlled them with astonishing vitality and pro- miscuous tricks. And that means they asked ever so many questions to puzzle their teachers and thought of more naughty things to do than the Bump-less Kind could ever think of. Yet they did lots for their school Qyou must par- ticularly remember that they did lots for their school, Best Beloved.j
