MOUNTAIHPU1LIC SCHOOI CEDAR Morgunr mmncswa ?ruoo Volume 1 j ■ 5 ‘ Beginning. Students from two small communities. Morgan and Franklin, were joined together in the forming of Cedar Mountain High School and Cedar Mountain Middle School. A new experience that would last for a whole year and more if it all worked out. We all came to school the first days with fears of how this year would turn out. But within weeks we were comfortable with each other and greeting everyone in the halls like old friends. Together we survived all the problems: the new bussing system, mixing the two school’s traditions together, sports, classes, and most of all creating new friendships. Cedar Mountain, a new beginning, a new challenge, and a time to grow and mature for the future. DEDICATION We, the first graduating class of Cedar Mountain High, would like to dedicate the Cougar to everyone who took part in the pairing of our school. Our parents, friends, the school administration and faculty, and both communi- ties of Franklin and Morgan have contributed to the success of the Cedar Mountain High School. They have molded us through the past years and prepared us for the future. We want to thank you for the time and effort you have invested in us. We are grateful for the memories we share. We’ll treasure them forever. 4 Dedication Seniors ....... Underclassmen . Faculty Staff. Sports......... Organizations ... Happenings..... The first stop was the New Zoo, where some of the class was mistakenly confused with animals. Luckily, no one was left there! The after- noon was spent exploring the Science Museum and watching “Behold Hawaii at the Omni Theater. Everyone worked up quite an appetite by the time evening rolled around, and they got their fill at the Boston Tea Party. The rest of the evening was spent using the recreational facilities at the Brook- lyn Center Holiday Inn, where the group spent the night. May 5 was spent in much the same fashion, with everyone shopping, swimming, or just goofing around. All in all. the two day fun-filled trip was a good time, sure to hold many fond memories for everyone involved. Student Council 45 Council Faculty Staff 48 A D M I N I S T R A T I O N A pairing between two school districts is very similar to a mar- riage. for it to be successful, there needs to be a great deal of understanding and compromise. I feel that the first year at the Cedar Mountain Schools has been very successful. The primary reason for this success has been due to the compromising and sharing of the students, parents, certi- fied and non-ccrtificd staff members, administrators, board members, and citizens of both the Franklin and Morgan School Districts. Additional curriculum opportunities have been offered, extra-curricular offerings have been broadened, and many new acquaintances and friendships have been made. In summary, I feel privileged to have served as Superintendent during the initial year and see the relationship and programs strengthening in the future. 50 Administration Top Photo Morgan School Board Row I: Dr. Marvin Niedan. One mem- ory I will always treasure will be of my trip to the Netherlands the summer before my senior year. It was a difficult decision to make. Everyone doubts whether they will be able to take such a big step I did too. I stepped into a whole new world. A world of unfamiliar traditions, a strange language, and a new life greeted me. It was a challenge that I hope future students will take. Missing out on two months of time spent with family and friends made me treasure my senior year all the more. It was like I was trying to make up for lost time. In reality though, time wasn’t lost. Going to another country was an experience well worth it. I learned new things, met new people, and made new friends; each of whom has become a small part of me. just like the graduating class of 84. Sue Ventcichcr Nine months ago I was here without knowing what to do. what to say and even what to think. The only thing I was wishing every day was that this would be over very soon . But now through all this time I have passed in this little town and this school with these people, everything has changed. Each day I learned new things, met new people, and made new friends. In one or the other way. you helped me with this new experience, you made me feel at home. The time went too fast and going home is hard, because I have to leave what is now a little part of me. and I don’t want to leave without saying to everybody, especially the seniors, thank you for helping me make this dream come true and I will never forget all of you. The Senior Variety Show was held that evening, followed by the crowning of the 1983 Homecoming Queen and King, who reigned over the Spirit Week festivities. The evening was completed with the senior girls’ 20- 6 victory over the junior girls in the Powder Puff Football Game. The students reverted to their childhood days on Tuesday, Baby Day. In a gallant effort that night, the volleyball team lost to Fairfax, 1-2. Chains and black leather invaded the school as the hard core's came out on Wednesday, Street Gang Day. Thursday's Nerd Day let the real personalities of many shine through as they dressed as weird as they dared. Uniforms of all sorts were apparent on Friday, Uni- form Day, in anticipation for the big football game that night. The students' spirits were not dampened as the football team lost 18-31 in a courageous effort against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. The week’s activities came to a close as the students boogied on down to the music of Presence at the Homecoming Dance. Even though the week went fast, everyone had a lot of fun and made many lasting memories. QUEEN LYNN AND KING ROD HOMECOMING ’83 VARIETY SHOW ROYAL COURT 6 7 8 I. Lynn and Tony. 2. Their individual and small group per- formances consisted of young old and animal skits, fast and slow motion, musical panto- mimes. cuttings from plays, and original skits. As large groups they put on serious and funny one act plays. The rest of the student body was fortunate enough to sec many of their performances. This year CMHS saw their share of changes. Lengths were shortened in both shirts and pants to make the comfortable crops. Shoes also saw some change. Colorful plastic jellies made their appearance on the scene along with dynamic and bright bobbie socks. But. then again, the ever popular Tigers and Nikcs remained throughout the halls on the feet of many students. Lee jeans also remained in view. Their newness this year was the appearance of baggy London Riders, tapered crops, and pin-stripes. The size of earrings increased greatly this year, along with variety and color. A 128 Fads and Fashions The tough look was achieved by leather jackets and muscle shirts. Both were worn by guys and girls in a combination of look, color, and style. Hats arc no longer worn necessarily for a purpose, but now for looks. They range from sophisticated side swaying hats to basic baseball caps. Op Sportswear (the shortened version of Ocean Pacific) was also a very popular sight. This is a line of clothing that includes jackets, crop shirts and pants, muscle shirts, and basic tees. Now. w ith the fashions of '84 in mind, you can continue to watch and sec how they really do change.
