Pictures Courtesy of William s Studio 1968 WE, THE CLASS OF OF FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOL, DEDICATE THIS ATOM TO MR H. A. MAHLER The graduating class of 1968 discovered that it is difficult to choose a person to dedicate an annual toj but after careful deliberation, we chose you. Hr. Mahler, for a varied number of reasons. Our last year of high school has also been your final year. You have been with us for the last ten years as superintendent of Franklin Public School. Those ten years have ended a long, fine career in school administration of thirty-five years. Just as we are leaving with many happy memories, we are sure you are leaving with the same. We realize that one of your greatest contributions to our school has been all the hard work it took to get many new improvements made on the school, which include: all of the new lights in the high school, and the remodeling of the business room, science room, music room, and library. Most remembered of all is the new addition, including the gymnasium and new classrooms. We especially wish to thank you for getting the new lights in the gym in time for our Senior Class Play, which certainly helped in the success of the play. Another memory we can all share is our Senior Class Trip to Lake Okaboji, which you chaperoned. Even though you will no longer be a member of the school administration, you will always be in our hearts and minds and throughout those of the community. They even went so far as to build two bonfires. But this was only because the first one was BURNT TO THE GROUND a day early. Did this stop the mighty Seniors! NoJ They went on to build a bigger ?nd better bonfire in only one day. How did they do this? With sweat and toil and mid- night oilj As planned, the coronation ceremonies were held on Thursday night, October 5, 1967. The parade, led by the High School band, marched to the athletic field, where the cheerleaders led a short pep Test. This was followed by the coronation of Queen Kathy and Grand Marshall Jerry. The next day, true to the slogan, Bomb the Blue- jays, the mighty Franklin Tigers did indeed bomb the Bluejays with a score of 18 to 13. That evening the students danced to the music of the Vem Schmidt band. This concluded the 1967 Home- coming. Hit ’em again! The Junior High Basketball team turned out to be the most successful athletic team at Franklin during the 1967-68 school year. During the season the team did not look like an outfit that would win a tournament. However, they jelled in time and turned in three convincing wins in the Junior High Tourn- ament, which was held here at Franklin. They defeated Gib- bon 35-19 in the opening round. Sleepy Eye by a Us-35 score in the semifinalsj and Gaylord by a score of U2-35 in the champ- ionship game. This was the Tiger's second championship in history. The first one came in 19ls7.
