Basketball history was made in Franklin during the 1965 season. After building a sixteen win and two loss regular season record, losing only to Gaylord and Gibbon, the Tigers went into tournament play to achieve these firsts in the his- tory of the school. The District Ten championship was the first achievement for the team. This was accomplished with four victories. Walnut Grove, Lamberton, Redwood Falls, and Springfield were the victims. All these games were decided by at least 12 points. The most rewarding win was in the championship game with Springfield. Franklin avenged last year's one point loss by walloping the defending champs and number one seeded team by 26 points, 77-51. Region Three was about the same story as District Ten with Franklin over-power- ing their opponents. Franklin upset undefeated Tracy in the first round 62-52 with strong rebounding and hot shooting. Against Granite Falls, the Tigers again dis- played hot shooting, tremendous fast breaks, rebounding, and great defense to completely outplay the Killowatts for a 77-5 win and State tournament entry. THE LONG AWAITED TROFHT Franklin's first tourna- ment entry was defeated by Minnetonka, eventually the State champs, by 76-5 . After playing even ball for almost three quarters, the State champ's superior height and defense wore the Tigers down and gave the Skippers a 22 point margin. In consolation play, Henning also defeated Franklin 75-65. thus giv- ing the Tigers a 22 win and h loss final record.
