Grand staff conducts noted students, orchestral symphony resounds Franklin's instrumentalists in Symphonic Band managed to remain a beat ahead of all rivals again this year. At the close of competition, they were sure to have taken as many awards as 1968's members, whose achievements included ten superior and two excellent ratings at State Solo and Ensemble Festival. Junior Kathy Graham and Senior Bill Donahue were presented music scholarships, and in addition were selected from over two thousand entries in the festival to participate in a special all-state honors band and orchestra. Ignoring the formidable talent displayed, there were two major reasons for the unchallengeable success of instrumental music. The first, Mr. Roy Ernst, has been an influential factor for some time. Half sabbatical leave in no way impaired his virtuosity, and Symphonic and Varsity Band flourished under his care. The second was gifted Mr. Jack Trudgeon. Attaining his services as Orchestra instructor must be added to this year's impressive list of accomplishments. iv W 'ir ...Q Concentration mirrored in their faces, Vicki Haltom and Nancy Kushigian mastered a difficult passage of music.
