Daily warm-ups and practice sessions helped Sophomore tanker Mike Skender to better his time in the 100-yard butterfly event. f' U1 if S, , QA s A Patient Swimmers keep cool in community-property pool When the swimming team finally got into the pool it made good use of the opportunity, came up for the season with head above water, a 5-7 third in League. But Franklin's varsity swimmers had to share school facilities with Churchill classes, which ran till 6 P.M., and with girls' competitive swimming and Aqualites, the synchronized swimming group which contributed its bank balance toward an electric scoreboard for the pool. lt was new-coach year, too. Larry Teahan, a Livonia native, took over head coaching duties from Mr. Tavi- dian, who moved to Churchill. Mr. Zang replaced Mr. Girard as assistant. ln their first year the new coaches accompanied Senior co-captains Brian Bates and Bruce Cawetzka to Lansing for the State Swim Finals.
