GIRLS' SOFTBALL 1948 With girls' interscholastic athletics at a minimum nowadays, participation in an athletic program has been limited. However, in the spring of 1948 this team made a creditable record for itself. The girls played teams from a few neighboring schools and won a majority of the games. The captain was Rita Helmet: the manager, Theresa Niet: and the coach, Mrs. Foster. Qxlkxxx ll

Those people would point with pride to the Roosevelt Winged-Feet of the 1948 season. Track is not as yet a major sport at Roosevelt. This is mainly due to the small turnout of candidates as well as a limited schedule. With the completion of the new athletic field, a cinder oval may be constructed, offering more opportunities for practice, and in turn may lure more speedy hope- fuls into this increasingly popular sport. While not the outstanding team in Dutchess County, as far as victories go, the R. H. S. cinder-men were surpassed by few teams in spirit and will to win.
