BASEBALL 1948 Last year the Roosevelt High School ball players saw one of their most suc- cessful seasons. Out of a fourteen game schedule, Coach Todd's boys won six and lost eight. While this does not seem too impressive, the Green and Gold team was outstanding in local competition. For the first time in their rivalry Roosevelt beat Poughkeepsie in baseball, but was not content with one victory, so went on to overpower them in the next game. Todd's Terrors rounded out 'the season by splitting two games each with Arlington and Wappingers. This year's team, composed mainly of veteran players, may expect another good season. SOCCER 1948 In keeping up the athletic prestige of Roosevelt, this year's soccer team did its share by winning three games out of a tough live-game schedule. Anderson and Oakwood, the former soccer powers of Dutchess County, both met defeat at the able hands of Coach Trani's Roosevelt booters, captained by Harold Juckett. If this is an indication of future seasons, Roosevelt can expect some great soccer teams in the coming years. This year also saw soccer instituted as a major sport at R. H. S., making the letter-men of the team eligible for membership in the Varsity Club. Those people would point with pride to the Roosevelt Winged-Feet of the 1948 season. Track is not as yet a major sport at Roosevelt. This is mainly due to the small turnout of candidates as well as a limited schedule. With the completion of the new athletic field, a cinder oval may be constructed, offering more opportunities for practice, and in turn may lure more speedy hope- fuls into this increasingly popular sport. While not the outstanding team in Dutchess County, as far as victories go, the R. H. S. cinder-men were surpassed by few teams in spirit and will to win. Nllltlrg, The team took its many ups and downs in stride and looks forward to a much . ' - better season in the spring of 1949. , J 5 N f i ..
