Nickerson, Administrative Officer and SA T, M, Connelly 194 The Administrative Department is people and paper. Handling everything from service records and news stories to Captain's Mast and correspondence courses. Admin operates directly under the Executive Officer. The Administrative Officer and his staff are responsible for the Plan of the Day, enforcement and promulgation of ship's regulations, and the XO's correspondence. The Captain's Office and the ship's secretary are ultimately re. sponsible for all of ROOSEVELTE official correspondence and re. ports. Additionally, they assist the Skipper in drafting ship'5 regu. lations and maintaining records. Correspondence courses, shipboard classes, rating advancement examinations are the baliwick of the Educational Services Office. Crewmen desiring to improve their education only need to stop in at the ESO for assistance. , The Legal and Discipline Office administer to the judicial needs aboard ship. Personnel assigned to these offices assist the CO and XO in handling Captainis Mast and court martials. Crewmen desiring wills, powers of attorney or legal advice need only stop by for friendly service. Headquartered in the Library amid a fine collection of writings are the ship's chaplains and their assistantsflibrarians. Church serv. ices are held each Sunday at sea and in port for all hands by the chap- lains and trained lay leaders. Detectives and sleuths, traffic cops and guides, the Master-at Amis force is ROOSEVELT's police force, working day and night to maintain law and order. Led by the Chief-Master-at-Arms, the sea going sheriffs patrol the ship at sea and in port. The Personnel Office is people, their achievements and problems. lf it's official, the men of Personnel will enter it in your service record. Be it leave or Commendation, TAD orders or promotion, Personnel has the answers. lf you want to ship for six or find out your retirement benefits and civilian job opportunities, stop by the Career Information Office. Always ready with a list of Navy benefits and civilian disadvantages are PtOOSEVELT's recruiters. The headquarters of the ship's advertising and public relations endeavors is located in the Public Affairs Office. Skilled journalists tum out a daily newspaper at sea, the ROOSEVELT SENTINEL, a quarterly magazine, the PRESIDENTIAL, port of call information booklets, and news stories and feature articles for release to military and civilian media. Tons of mail smoothly flow in and out of ROOSEVELT bBCa11SC of the efforts of the Post Office and its mail men. lf you need stamps, money orders, or the zip code of Naples, Georgia, the Post Office is ready to provide. Fast, efficient mail service through dark and stormy nightsi' is their motto. Setting type, making plates, printing forms and regulations are part of the duties of the lithographers of the Print Shop. Operating with two presses, a cutting machine, a camera, and other tools of their trade, the Print Shop produces praise-winning materials.
