RGOSEVELT, after an absence of nearly five years, departed for the Mediterranean for duty with the Sixth Fleet. On her tenth tour of duty in the Med, the 62,000 ton flat-top added still another niche to her fame as one of the Navy s most active carriers, visiting many ports. After her return to Florida, she operated on a busy schedule out of Norfolk and Mayport, gualifying pilots and conducting training drills of all kinds. ln May, l958, she once again entered into an extensive yard period, at the New York Naval Shipyard in Brooklyn, where her steam catapults were overhauled and new, modern equipment installed which allowed FDR to operate with the heaviest aircraft aboard. She returned to the Mediterranean once again, in Ianuary, l959, to begin her eleventh deployment with the Sixth Fleet. .Hx X Yffbifr gk . s ', Lfifr fi .. t 4 , - 5 as 1 v N.. x , .9 wk! - F , . 1 Q . .
