U.S.S. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT CCVA-423 cfo FLEET PosT OFFICE NEW YORK. NEW YORK It has really been a short time since the 'ROOSEVELT detail first assembled in Building 52 in the Puget Sound Navy Yard at Bremerton. The trials and tribulations of putting a ship in Commission are very well known, suffice to say it was well done under trying circumstances. Since the 6th of April many things have happened. We had our troubles, as well as our fun and we always met the schedule, even if at times it took tremendous effort on the part of all hands. As all of us know it is most important that a ship starts its career in being a Can Do ship as well as a happy one. The ROOSEVELT has done just this. The cruise around the Horn with the reception given us in the South Americaxn ports will long remain with us. The good will that was engendered in those countries by the officers and men of this ship certainly has been of great assistance to our country in our relationships with South America. There were many messages of congratulations on this particular subject. V The work done with the Reserves on this cruise was another out- standing job. l am sure these people went back to their various communities with nothing but praise for the officers and men of this ship. One cannot point to one individual or group that has been responsible for this fine performance as it has been an All Hands effort. lt is with pleasure that I congratulate All Hands on this splendid effort and wish you many more Happy and Pleasant Cruises in yourcareer in the Navy. 010 1' Ll W.. Joi-IN T. HAYWARD S
