Class History Ris hard to believe that four years ago this class of 1960 was just a group of freshmen. Green, young freshmen indeed—possessing nothing but some native ability, a few brains, much conceit, and full of giggles. How- ever, when given our first examination our teachers realized that we were gradually making Progress. Nevertheless, as one views this class of 1960 he readily sees a group of noble, sensible, attentive Seniors, ready to face whatever problems that confront us. The first big problems we attacked after entering high school were get- ting ourselves adjusted to the new rooms, and getting acquainted with new Classmates coming from different Surroundings. The changing of classes was quite confusing but after a few weeks we were straightened out, and ready to settle down for four long years. Since we were expected to be dumb, we Before the end of the first semester, there were many changes in our mumber. Some fell by the wayside, 2 few transferred to other schools, and one newcomer joined our class— Chester Pace. This made ourenroliment 74. As full pledged members of high school, we really made our presence felt by joining and participating in every activity sponsored in the school. Mary C. Jones and Willie Bell Morgan ran for Miss F.C.T.S. We were credited with sponsoring the first Bam Fire and Dance in oureffortto raise fumds for homecoming. Since we were new to each other, the election of class officers did not affect our voting. Annie P. Stallings was elected president; Dorothy Marie Jacobs, Vice President; Gracy Ann Fogg, Secretary; and Willie Bell Moman Treasurer. Our Student Counci] members were: Mary L. Williams, Janice Yarborough, James W. Davis, and Joseph Joyner. We were well represented in all phases of sports. Basketball: Barbara A. Strickland, Janet Kelley, LaVerne Robinson, Olivia Alston and Dorothy M. Jacobs on the girls’ team. Harold Stallings on the boys' team. Football: Leroy Smith, James McArthur Alston, McArthur Williamson, Thurmond White, Bobby Branch, Cary Green, Earl Wilkins, and Arthur McCowan. Baseball: John C. Hayes, Bobby Branch, and James McArthur Alston. As our first year came to a close, we saw the wisdom in the Saying, “Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise. SOPHOMORES We returned in August as sophomores, wiser from the experience ; 7 us our Freshman year. Although a few failed to return, the ma: to take their places in the classes and corridors of dear old F.C. 7. sponsors were the same-—Miss Turner and Mrs. Fitz. To show that we meant business from the start, we sent out p to the following activities: 4 H Club—LaVerne Robinson, our se. the newly elected 4-H State Treasurer, Barbara A. Strickland aj Chavis who won top honors in the Bread Making Demonstration. They received a twenty-five dollar war bond for this achievement. In Harold Stalling, Dewitt Perry, Janet Kelley, Olivia Alston, Barbara , Strickland, and Dorothy Jacobs represented us on the girls’ basketball On the football team were McArthur Williamson, Arthur Walters, Bobby Branch and Leroy Smith. Our representatives for the § Council were Mary L. Williams, Janice Yarborough, James Davis and Joyner. Other organizations that we joined were the Choral Club, Cc} Squad, Varsity Club and the band. : Janet Louise Kelley reigned as Miss F.C. T. S. for the school y 1958-59. Our class officers were—' A Division: Joseph Joyner, President; W. Davis, Vice President; Irma Lee Chavis, Secretary; and Janet L. Kell 2 Treasurer. B Division: LaVerne Robinson, President; Robert Mitchell, V President; Evelyn Lemay, Secretary; and Vardine Wortham, Treasurer. Under the supervision of Miss Turner, we sponsored a Thanksgiving play “The First Thanksgiving. Mrs. Fitz sponsored the Christmas play, Night Before Christmas. ' Our sophomore year, filled with endless activities and en; nally came to an end. Once again we bade farewell to old F.C. T.S. eagerly anticipated the coming of our Junior year and the Prom, JUNIORS Due to an old educational custom, Sophomores usually become unio and our promotion made our sense of importance increase out of all
