CLASS HISTORY — CHAPTER I oe : Four years ago, early one September moming in 1953, we, Training School with our appearence. Whether we didthis by ch to discuss here. (The point is that we came in number). who are now seniors, honored the Franklin County oice or because we had to is a point that we refuse We soon found out that we were to have two capable leaders, Mrs. Marguerite Evans and Mr. James M. Ridley. Right away we got the ball rolling by electing class officers, and just to show from the beginning who would be boss in this class we elected 4 girls and one boy: President, Gladys Stroud; Vice President, Hazel Eaton; Secre- tary, Matilda Macon; Assistant Secretary, Evelyn Chavis; and Treasurer, Joshua Levister, Jr.; also to show that we meant business from the start we sent out participants to the following activities: Basketball-Virginia Webb, Gladys Stroud, Frances Whitaker, Matilda Macon, to the girls team, Kenneth Harris, Joshua Levister, to the boys team. Choral Club-Frances, Gladys, Elaine, Matilda, Laura, Juanita. Student Council - Elaine Strickland, Virginia, Eaton and Joshua Levister. Although many of us managed to complete our Freshman year successfully, disaster befell others of us. A few had their growth retarded a year, others dropped out of the Freshman Class: forever. CHAPTER II With the coming of the next September, we received a new name-Sophomores. We entered this year a liftle wiser and with more confidence than we hadhad during the previous year. Even though our number had decreased to sixty, we were better represented in the extra-curricular activities. We sent out seven cheerleaders twenty Choral Club members, seven Varsity Club members, some Band and Student Council members. Our clase officers vi lous! MACON'S BUSINESS COLLEGE OPENS Louisburg, N.C.- Miss Matilda Macon has announced the open- ing of her Business College. The college has one dormitory and ten teachers, They include Misses Laura Wright, Alice M. Stokes, Rosa Perry, and Mrs. Bessie Reed Williams. NURSES GO to WORK IN GHANA Washington, D.C.- Miss Gladys Stroud, Lois M. Moore, Bettye Brodie, all Red Cross Nurses, have safely arrived in Ghana. TO TEACH AT SHAW UNIVERSITY Raleigh, N.C.-Miss Johnnie E. Strickland, Home Economic Ex- pert, has been appointed to the staff of Shaw U. SUCCESSFUL WOMAN FLYER Rome, Italy- Miss Nancy Bradford, first woman jet pilot, flew around the world in 8 hours. MUSTANGS WIN OVER NATIONALS Detroit, Mich.- The famous football team, the Mustangs of Baltimore, Md. won the championship from the Nationals of this city. The spectacular stars were Raymond Yarboro, Reuval Jones, Harvey Spivey, andPlummer Williamson. These Stars, with Coach Kenneth Harris, were graduates of F.C.T.S. in 1958. NEW EDITOR OF LOCAL PAPER Los Angeles, Cal.- Mr. Wiley Davis was appointed new editor of THE NEWS DISTURBER. The reporters are Carter Lewis and George Milon. WILL VISIT HOMETOWN New York, N.C.- The famous model, Miss Elizabeth Butts, for- merly of Lovisburg, N.C. will spendher vacation with her parents and friends before sailing to Europe. NEW DISCOVERY Germany- In his famous Black Town laboratory in Louisburg, Germany, Professor Pernel| Hartsfield's latest discovery is his meal pill . His sleep walking pill is being perfected. I N iY Norfolk, Va.- The following girlshave made the Army Air Force their career: Misses Ethel Foster, Clara Cooke, and Elnora Wright. They are outstanding Sargeants after only two years in service, «FAMOUS PICTURE STOLEN Paris, France- The Famous Sputnik, painted by the notedartist and designer, Miss Frances Whitaker, was stolen from her manslon during an exhibition of her famous pictures. A private detective, John Sherlock Terrell, has been hired to trace the whereabouts of the picture. ee SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS SILVER ACE NIGHT CLUB There will be an all night dance at the Silver Ace, 156th Street, Chicago, II]. Sponsors are the Misses Shirley Jean Moore and Mildred Richardson. Miss Juanita Young informed us that she was recuperating from an eye operation, performed by two well known eye specialists, Drs. James Edward Hayes and Joshua W. Levister. She wishes to thank all of her friends for the lovely flowers and cards during her illness. ANNOUNCEMENTS Johnnie Jeffreys, an ardent baseball fan, is now managing the Brooklyn Dodgers in California. The Hilliard-Jones Birdland night spot has just reopened. The joint owners are James Hilliard Thomas Jones. Miss Hazel Eaton has just become engaged to one of the world's outstanding band leaders, Mr. George Frank Greene. Miss Katie Perry will honor them ata reception at her home on Long Island, New York, Miss Virginia Eaton announces the opening of her beauty salon. Don't let unruly hair spoil your glamour. Miss Margaret Branche has venturedinto the field of matrimony. Mrs. Lucy Terrell Williams announces the birth ofher quads, The proud mother states that it's cheaper by the dozens. Ithas been recently announced that Robert Lee Alston and Charles Moore, members of the city police force, have been promoted to sergeants, Ralph Brown, a former studentof F.C.1.5 «, Is stationed overseas. CLASS HISTORY This was a year of ad work. We found ourselves faced with many and greater problems. We dort ee outstanding in all activities in which we had formerly participated plus being host to the Seniors at the Senior Prom. We were indeed a proud and happy class. It was with pleasure that we watched olen aahniere snr Betty Brodie, Evelyn Chavis, Johnnie Jeffreys, Elaine Strickland, Alice Stokes, Laura Le — eae Raymond Alston, and Ralph Brown Become members of the Crown and Scepter Club. Gladys roud, oa Whitaker, and Elaine Strickland were still doing their bit on the basketball team. Hazel Eaton, Virginia Ea oy Margaret Branche, Harvey Spivey, Johnnie Jeffreys, and Betty Brodie became members of a new group, the Dramatic Club. CHAPTER IV — And now we come fo the fourth and greatest year in the history of the class. With only 46 of us gaining the title, Seniors, we began to take ourselves seriously. For the last time, as a group, we elected with great care, the following people to office :President, Ralph Brown; Vice President, Elaine Strickland; Secretary, Evelyn Chavis; Treasurer, Frances Whitaker; Sponsor, Mrs. V. H. Levister. Juanita Young, Evelyn Chavis, and Elaine Strickland represented us at the Shriner's Debutante Ball in Louisburg. Their escorts were: Plummer Williamson, Ralph Brown, and Joshua Levister, respectively, Frances Whitaker represented us at the A.K.A. Debutante's Ball in Raleigh. Her escorts were Kenneth Harris and Joshua Levister. Johnnie Jeffreys, Harvey Spivey, Rueval Jones, Carter Lewis, Robert Lee Alston, Joshua Levister, Raymond Yarborough, Plummer Williamson, Kenneth Harris, completed their third and fourth years on the football squad. Elaine Strickland, Matilda Macon, Hazel Eaton, Alice Stokes, Bettye Brodie, and Johnnie Jeffreys received Crown and Scepter Certificates. Our Student Council members were Virginia Eaton, Elaine Strickland, Johnnie Jeffreys, and Joshua Levister. We journeyed to A. T. College, Greensboro, N.C. for Senior Day. A good time was had by all, The Juniors, treated us to an evening of fun and gaiety at the Junior-Senior Prom. Our work is almost over, for the shadows of graduation have cast their glow. What shall the future be? For some there will be college, for others marriage, the armed forces, or jobs. Whatever we do and wherever we go, we shall be making history for Dear Old F.C.T.S.
