EA A rer Kra — MIN Ж FLYER FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY FOREWORD The pathway through an individ- aul's formal education is a memor- able one. Many elements combine to make it so. These elements fur- nish the youth with the knowledge and experience necessary to devel- op into adult maturity. The variety of the experiences among students and classes, the guideposts set by his faculty, the unity and sportsman- ship learned in the teamwork of sports, and the balance between the social and academic life attained in school activities are all coupled with the myriad experiences of day to day living in our community. As a result of this we mature into re- sponsible citizens of our community —the site where we have received our informal education, the locality of the work and play, joy and sor- row, victory and defeat of our daily lives—all the moments that combine to form the years we call the best.” Å `` k: a IE È 8 - UTILE у HELLE The fountain, located in front of the Old Capitol, is a well-known landmark in Frankfort as well as a symbol of the city's colorful history. Since Frankfort was the first city in the state to have piped-in water, the City Council decided to make use of this modern improvement to beautify their new capitol building. Thus in 1839 Joseph Smith was paid $975 to construct a tiered fountain surrounded by gravel. Since water was very expensive, the fountain emanated its crystal-clear streams of water only on holidays or special occasions. Throughout history the fountain has remained a favorite with the youth of Frankfort. Although young boys no longer sail boats in its sparkling waters or wade in it on hot summer days, it symbolizes the history and culture of which Frankfort is proud. == — r In contrast to the old is the new. The Floral Clock, which was built four years ago, is a symbol of the prog- ress and prosperity which Frankfort has enjoyed in the last few years. Located on the west grounds of the State Capitol, the clock's face consists of thousands of flowering plants arranged in a symmetrical design. These plants are changed regularly with the seasons. At the base of the clock is located a wishing well, and the money collected from this is used to benefit handicapped children. The Floral Clock has become a leading tourist attraction in Kentucky and has boosted Frankfort's economy as well as providing a spot of beauty in the landscape. A PRAYER Bless thou, O Lord, the avenues We tread from day to day. Be ever mindful of our needs And teach us how to pray. Help us to make our avenues Be always straight and fair And lead to that eternal home Where Joy reigneth there. Be thou our guide and teacher, too, And lead us all aright Until our paths on earth shall lead To avenues of light. Vivian Moore ANN mot Сем, Ж. . The members are elected by the citizens of Franklin County and serve for a four-year period. At the present time they are searching for a solution to the overcrowded county schools. PRINCIPAL Jk e i III s In his second year as principal at Franklin County High, Mr. Moore has further demonstrated both his leadership abilities and his personal concern for each of his students. Though he was not able to be with us during the first semester because of a heart attack, he returned the second semester to contribute his excellent leadership for the remainder of the school term. As we leave the halls of FCHS, we look back with great admiration at his helpful and just guidance which has made this, 1965, a memorable school year. — W ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL . ance counselor, Mr. Underwood moved to the f Mr. Moore, he exhibited both his fine leader- he principal returned the second semester. This in- volves a large amount of work because the senior class is busy throughout the year with such activities as measuring for class rings, preparing for Home- coming, presenting a Senior Talent Show, and practic- ing for graduation. The council is representative of the entire student body and serves as a vital link between the students and faculty. It is not a disciplinary body, nor does it infringe upon the administration by imposing regulations upon the students. It merely attempts to promote under- standing and to suggest needed reforms through- out the school. This year with the cooperation and backing of the student body and faculty the Student Council continued its sponsorship of the seven-year-old Korean orphan, Soon Nam, through the Foster Parents’ Plan. In addition to community and school projects the council enjoyed activities in the line of entertainment. In October many members at- tended the Student Council Convention in Lex- ington, Kentucky, and in February the council held a Hootenanny to raise money. The newest project of this year's agenda is the Dropout Program aimed at preventing school dropouts through an intense program of рег- sonal consultations and advertisement concerning the disadvantages of an incompleted high school d Р Janice Webb, Jane Davidson, and Stevie Hays display toys which education. will be sent to Soon Nam, the Korean orphan. 172 This year the FCHS Student Council was asked to help promote interest in the Franklin County Blood Program through advertisement and per- sonal solicitations.
