We have endeavored to bring to you some of the prides of Franklin County, both people and places. We hope you will enjoy the ‘62 Flyer and that it, too, will become a pride of Franklin County. SCENIC VIEWS IN FRANKLIN COUNTY THE CLASS OF 1962 In “58 we came to Franklin County, As freshmen we were awed, afraid, and shy; The school was new; it held an unknown bounty, The vastness of its manner reached the sky. That year athletics brought us glory, In football the Kiwanis Bow! we won} In basketball the Mid-State was our story; An award for sportsmanship we, too, brought home. As sophomores we came again for learning, The Southern Association was our aim; They gave us the rating for which we all were yearning, And added to our ever-growing fame. Our junior year brought change and variation, Another hour was added to our day; We welcomed in the new administration, Mr. Bondurant, Mr. Connelly, and Mr. Moore had come to stay. Our senior year we faced with mixed emotions— The joy of getting pictures and our rings; The feeling for our school of deep devotion; The feeling of regret that parting brings. As if to give a farewell gift or present, A year of “firsts has been our senior year; Our cheerleaders brought us an honor pleasant By winning first place in the state for cheers. We've also achieved our high school day's ambition By beating our age-old rival Frankfort High; We must keep up the now begun tradition And defeat them every time we play—or die. Our high school days are over; time is fleeting; We now must say goodbye to days of ease; As seniors it will be our final meeting When last we walk the Avenue of Trees. By ANN PACEY TO THIS GRADUATING CLASS OF 1962, THE FIRST TO GRADU- ATE HAVING ATTENDED ALL FOUR YEARS AT FRANKLIN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, WE DEDICATE THIS 1962 FLYER. Miles Harrod, vice chairman, is serving his eighth year as a member of the board and is engaged in farming. Kirtley Hockensmith, Jr., owner of the Hockensmith Insurance Agency, is serving his second year on the board. H. T. Perdew, Regional Supervisor of the Investors Syndicate, is serving his second year. Willard Gibson, Chairman, is serving his fourth year and is the Assistant Personnel Director of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mrs. Ruth MacDonald, homemaker, is serving her second year. Roy Bondurant, Superintendent, is serving his second year. MR. CHARLES BARRETT Supervisor of Instruction MR. CHARLES TERRY Director of Pupil Personnel Left to Right: Mary Lewis Penn, Secretary to the Superintendent and supervisor of the office staff; Ann Rogers, Secretary to Mr. Terry; Jane Harrod, Secretary to Mr. Barrett; absent from picture is Barbara Hulette, Bookkeeper. SUPERINTENDENT OF FRANKLIN COUNTY SCHOOLS № % МЕ, ROY BONDURANT A school system may only function properly through efficient leadership. Mr. Bondurant has provided this leadership, which has made Franklin County High the outstanding high school it is. With the welfare of the school and the student body in mind, he has freely given many hours of his time to enable our com- munity to have a better, more efficient school system. PRINCIPAL MR. RONALD CONNELLY During the years at Franklin County High School, probably the person leaving the greatest impression on us is Mr. Connelly, our principal for the past two years. Upon his shoulders rests the burden of running the school. His job includes being part janitor, teacher, statistician, engineer, diplomat, counselor, and policeman. We, the student body, acknowledge and appreciate the hig h caliber of leadership he has given us while at Franklin County High School. ELMER C. MOORE Assistant Principal Mr. Moore counsels with par- ents about student problems. { te E t S “MOORE. When Mr. Moore was asked to describe his personal qualities, he said, “| may not be handsome, rich, industrious, or have any hair on my head, but I’m honest. In a number of his encounters with .the students at Franklin County, this honesty has truly been revealed—sometimes painfully. In all sincerity, Elmer Moore is a fine individual. He is diligent, candid, and a man of great integrity. He shows fairness and is unprejudiced in all his decisions as Assistant Principal. OUR SECRETARIES DORIS JONES Secretary to Principal and bookkeeper LOUISE MITCHELL Secretary to Assistant Principal The secretaries of our school fill an important function in the efficient operation of our school offices. Upon their shoulders falls the task of keeping record cards up-to-date, answering student questions, greeting guests, an- swering the many phone calls, and keeping everyone posted on the routine of the school. Often it means giving of extra time to fulfill their jobs. To these secre- taries we say: a much deserved thanks. GUIDANCE COUNSELORS | | | | MRS. LOUISE SWITZER Mrs. Switzer, patient and understand- ing, is always willing to help students find a solution to their problems. Although she is constantly hustling and bustling about, she gladly offers her support. MR. JOHN UNDERWOOD Mr. Underwood is a conscientious, faithful, and inspiring person for whom we hold high regard, both as a counselor and as a friend. Do you suppose he really paid a dime “Who ordered 75 pounds of frozen Dr. Moore and Nurse Switzer practicing for that coke? shrimp?” medicine without а license. “BULLETIN ° ADMINISTRATION RELAXES Blood, sweat and tears. With an increased number of students this year, they had to work twice as hard and twice as fast to prepare appetizing meals. Preparing meals to suit everyone is no easy job, but our ladies did their task well. JANITORS Our hard-working janitors de- serve a great deal of credit for keeping our school in such ex- cellent condition. They perform such varied duties as cleaning up after dances, repairing br oken equipment, and keeping our floors spotless. These men are often called upon during the year, and they are always re- liable and willing to help. To these fine men we extend our grateful thanks. (CHEN STA к. For | have spent many months in these halls and have witnessed many things. Verily | say unto you that he who shall hear my words and heedeth them shall find his way, and to him a scroll shall be given. But he that heareth my words and heedeth them not shall find a rocky road and unto him a scroll shall not be given. Freshman! Hear thou my words! Freshman: Beware thou the Sophomore! қ The Sophomore is not thy friend. He fain would be а upperclassman а а spendeth his time with the Senior. He will sneer at thee and will know thee as his vassal. He calleth the Junior by name and is on good terms with the Instructors. He talketh much but sayeth nothing. Freshman: The Sophomore is not thy friend. Freshman: Know thou the Junior. : Н д ix th ith The Junior is shy and full of evil ways. He acts as thy friend, but in truth he is a viper. He will promise to fix thee up wi datés but will only partake of thine. He will borrow thy moneys—Yea; even unto thy banquet allowance—and iue pay thee back. He will call upon thee for help in his tasks but will never help thee. He will slap thy back and will ca thee friends —But Freshman—Beware thou the Junior. Freshman: Know thou the Senior! Е MR А Неге is а wicked man—He walketh with а swagger and hath a mean and haughty look. The Senior knoweth all—Yea; eve more than his instructors. He hath no time for thee and will not look upon thee. Freshman: Beware thou the Senior. Freshman: Know that unto thee an instructor is given! This is a mighty person. Thy teacher knoweth all, heareth all, and seeth all. It is he that giveth thy mark and thy exe duties. If thou wouldst know him as friend, laugh mightily at his jests; but if sweat standeth upon his brow and fire danceth within his eye—get thee upon the ball! For verily | say unto you: If thy instructor knoweth thee in Ше hall of study or in the hall of detention, he shall descend upon thee as a storm, and thy torture shall be everlasting. Freshman: Know thou thy instructors. Freshman: Know not thy principal! This man sitteth on the throne of the scornful and knoweth thy every thought. If thou shouldst be called into his chambers, advance thou with caution! The chamber is a den and the principal shall spin his web about thee. He shall offer thee a couch and shall jest and make thee relax—But Freshman! Know this man! His wrath is mighty and unto him all things are known. If thou shalt trangress, the principal shall fall upon thee and his wrath shall consume thee. Freshman: Shun the Principal as a plague! Freshman: Know thou that ye shall attend the arena. In the arena thou shalt rend the heavens with noise when the gladiators enter. Unto the enemy thou shalt not have mercy. He must be vanquished and trampled into earth. Freshman: Take thy place in the Club of Pep and enter thou into the arena! Freshman: These things have | spoken unto thee. Ponder these thoughts and enter thee into the chambers of learning and gain thy scroll. For verily | say unto thee: MANY ARE CALLED—BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN!!!
