C. H. S. beginning in September, 1950. The history of an individual must be the sum total of his adventures and in this “Blue Book’ we would take our high school adventures and bind them in a happy volume where they may be recalled in the long years ahead. The adventures in our high school lives have brought a certain amount of happiness and satis- faction. True, they were not always in the amount we expected nor of the quality hoped for, but they have always played their part in shaping our lives. We found that the harder we worked the greater became our satisfaction in the joy of achievement. Along with this came the touch of sorrow, the pang of illness, the fear of failing a test, and the encouraging touch of that “Sympathy which makes the whole world kin’. In fact, we find that by looking back, we have had a taste of real life in our adventures that we call high school. Some of us found reality and our adventures have enriched our lives forming a foundation upon which to build for greater happiness in the future. $) 1 % 2 f AE BEA TE Mf “Gladly would he learn and gladly teach. Miss Ruth Hunt In Appreciation “Our Adventures in Blue”’ is an account of a wonder- ful year at Franklin County High School. It recalls days of work and play, trial and error, success and failure. We remember these adventures with a touch of sadness as well as a sense of great satisfaction. To remember is, in a way, to be appreciative; and in being appreciative we wish to dedicate this, the 1956 “Animo’’ to Miss Ruth Hunt—for her love, kindness, understanding, and for her devotion. F. C. H. S. is a part of a county-wide system of public schools. At the head of this educational or- ganization is Mr. Harold W. Ramsey whose out- standing ability as a leader has definitely influ- enced “Our Adventures’. The Franklin County Schools under his guidance have made tremendous strides and with the help of this able staff, we look forward to continued progress. Mrs. Peggy Love Secretary Mr. Harold W. Ramsey Superintendent of Schools Mr. Fred Bennett Director of Transportation ns Nat q rs Se cates a ww J 13 Webster defines the word adventure as an exciting experience!.fhe word itself is exciting. It suggests exploration, new things, new ex- perience, and fun. It appeals to everyone, but especially does it ‘appeal-to the young in heart. Its magical charm’ has captivated countless millions through the’ centuries. “Somewnames stand out fromythe rést , There were the soldiers —David, Alexander the Great, Richard the Lion Hearted, Frederick the Great. There were the scientists, missionaries, writers, scholars, in- ventors, and industrialists. But adventure does not belong to the past, nor to any particular people. For every frontier which has vanished a dozen new ones have re- vealed themselves. There are still wars to be fought and won—against crime, highway ac- cidents, disease, famine, hate, fear, and above all, ignorance. There is so much to do and so little time! Never have the challenges been greater. We have harnessed the atom—but we fear the use man will make of it. We are threatened constantly by dozens of dreaded diseases—but we have few cures and preventions. Well, the frontiers are many, but the adven- tures are few. For it takes more than a ‘‘let the other fellow do it’’ attitude. It also takes more than just a “‘get by’’ attitude. If we assume these positions, we will march backward just Mr. Bruce Kent Guidance Director Mr. Cecil Doss Business Manager as surely as if we did nothing at all. Alice, in Alice in Wonderland, put it aptly when she said, ‘‘It takes a heap of running just to stand still,’’ or words to that effect. The world loves a fighter, a ‘‘go getter’, the fellow with a healthy curiosity and a will to find the answers. He is the owner of the spirit of adventure. It is he who will conquer the new. frontietsen. But where does one finds=this adventure? We cannot all be scientists, explorers, or soldiers of fortune. The Animo gives.us one clue. Adven- ture is right here! It iseall around us. Every class, with its answers to-satisfy our curiosities about life around us; @very book, with its storehouse of information and pleasure; every club, with its opportunities for leadership and service; every sport, with its outlets for our bursting energy—all work together to make life interesting, exciting, and worthwhile. But all of these happy adventures are be- hind lock and key, and the key is a combi- nation of ambition, curiosity and hard work. The final ingredient is a genuine love for life. How about you? Do you possess the key? If you do, the knocks will never be hard enough and the disappointments will never be big enough to get you down. As long as you hold to your key, life will aways be one big, wonderful adventure. Mrs. Edith F. Arrington Secretary People é People me ajaoag me 2]d00q People Fea =. People im Mr. Elton A. Ex- amining our status as seniors, we might pat ourselves on the back for reaching the peak of our school careers, or we might wish that we were still toiling underclassmen. Whatever our opinions on the subject are, we cannot forget our adventures through FCHS. Vice-President; Sylvia Smith, Secretary-Treasurer: Bobby 30 Anderson, President. Although the class of 56 has had a hand in almost every adventure at FCHS, there re- main many exciting things for us this year. With the coming of class day, prom, bacca- laureate, and commencement the big year of ad- venture will come to an end. The class of '56 will be gone—heading toward the biggest ad- venture—our journey into the world. Mr. Wayne Cooper, Co-Sponsor, and Bobby Anderson, ey sie — ee | Tine. 7N inane It is always the hope of the people who work on the Animo that you, the subscribers, will like it. The main purpose of a yearbook is to be something that the students in the school will enjoy reading, not just a publica- tion to win awards. It is an honor to be selected for a position on the staff, but quite a lot of responsibility goes along with it. The tasks, though many, are not thought of as being laborious in the least, but fun and companionship, which go into making up such a book as this. In order that the finished product can be more fully appreciated we'll give you a sketch of the various assembly lines. First of all, the staff had to plan a complete layout of the book and choose the theme and the color. Then we had to line up subscribers and solicit ads, for no yearbook can exist with- out a bankbook. Then the flashbulbs started popping, and we were knee-deep in pictures. To keep the book out of the illiterate class, stories had to be written and pictures identified. Taking all these facts into consideration, we can only hope that with the aid of the 56 Animo, FCHS will be remembered a little better in 76. Emily Davis and Nancy Hamlin shove off to sell more Bobby, Miss Peregoy, and Betty discuss schedule at ads. 1955 SIPA. 85 FERRUM MERCANTILE CO. The Animo .
