CLASS HISTORY Four of the most exciting and impressive years in the lives of the class of 1955 began on September 4, 1951 when the doors of F.H.S. opened wide to begin a new school year and another round of student activities. First came football season with all the enthusiasm and excitement that accompanies it. Some of the Grizzlies to be, thinking about and planning for the team's future, began Finding their, then insignificant, places on the freshman team. A few later worked their way into the Cubls reserve squad. The rest of the boys joined the girls in backing them up and adding to the school spirit. As the years passed, those Grizzlies to be became the team of the presentg and with hard work and determination under the skillful coaching of Doc'l Lash, they carried the school through many a victory. Then basketball came into the sports spotlight, and Hoosier Hysteria once again swept the state. In FHS the freshmen, along with the upperclassmen, began training eagerly in hopes that some of them might remain after the final cut. Several remained to represent the freshman class on the reserve squad. Under the careful coaching of Bob Evans, gradually the boys made their rugged ascent to reach small summits of glory by finally winning the sectional tournament two years in a row, after six years of conceding to other county schools. There were still those who when the football and basketball seasons had expired, still had much of the original spirit to pour out in backing the baseball team. Besides our memories of sports life, we recall all the parties given during our high school life. Perhaps most memorable were the class parties where we, forgetting our role as young ladies and gentlemen, com- peted, boys against girls, in brawling basketball games, later settling down to the more mild pastime of dancing. Otherrbits of fiavoring through the years have been the formal dances, mixers, all-school plays, victory holidays, joining of various clubs in school, convocations, and even such gruesome things as writing research themes and studying for Hnal exams. Probably most outstanding in our memories were the nights spent working on Moonlight Serenade our prom. Then, more than ever before, our class became a team. Boys clad in chemistry aprons splattered with paint, the more dexterous trying their skill at the tedious job of making tiny rosebuds for the harp favors, those rolling paper for the seemingly endless job of making stars to hang from the crepe paper ceiling-those memories remind us of all the nights and study hall periods spent in Mrs. Pruitt's art room, working against time. Then of the nights before the prom we hold memories of exhaustedly but happily dragging ourselves back and forth across the gym hanging crepe paper, teetering on top of wobbly ladders hanging stars, and intang- ling ourselves hopelessly in angel hair while trying to create a dreamy atmosphere. The big night finally came and we, with our dates, half danced, half dragged ourselves around the floor to the music of Dusty Rhodes and his band. We have named but a few of the wonderful memories which will stay with us long after we have jour- neyed far from our high school days. We shall never forget the incomparable kindness and help given us by our class sponsors, who through the years have been Mrs. Miller, Doc Lash, Mr. Deputy, Mrs. Pruitt, Mr. Spaulding, Mr. Sloop, and Miss Bagby. We wish, as our time to leave Franklin High School draws near, to express our sincere gratitude to each of the faculty and the administration for making possible our growth throughout these past four years. We feel that with the guidance which we have re- ceived from them, we the class of nineteen hundred and fiftyfive, will go out into the world better citizens, and qualified to do any task which we may under- take.
