LEONARD O'BRIEN LESLIE MCDONALD President Vice President MARTY LYBARGER PATRICIA HANNON Secretary Treasurer S Sw - FHS has given me the chance to meet many fas- cinating students from all over the world. It is the first school in which sophomores aren't treated as 'nothings' I FHS encourages a person to do his best with what he has and to give his utmost to his school. The reactions and impressions of sophomores entering FHS this fall from all over the world were as numerous and ,colorful as the facets of a diamond. The three quotes above are typical quotes made by typical sophomores. The Sophomore Class had its first glimpse at the new and different world which they were about to enter when they filed into the Idle Hour Theater on September sixth to become acquainted with the new principal and generally oriented. They were then directed to their classrooms by strategically placed Key Club members. Thus much of the confusion of the first day was circumvented. However, the extra classes in Annex A served as sufficientcause for frustrated looks. Many greeted the 7 1X2 minute walk with exuberance, but the majority were not at all impressed by the unusual situation. But, after the first few weeks, this record-breaking class of 553 students settled into the familiar routine of Frankfurt life. The first, and, for many, the most important business of the year was the election of class officers. Consequently, during the first and second weeks of October, aspirants for each office thrust petitions under classmates' noses and promise all kinds of wonders if elected. Final campaign speeches, which could make or break a candidate, were held amid tense silence in the auditorium before electionday. Finally the weeks of waiting were over and the results were announced: LEONARD O'BRIEN-President LESLIE MCDONALD-Vice President MARTY LYBARGER-Secretary PAT HANNON-Treasurer Generally, the Sophomore year is filled with the serious business of getting acquainted with High School life and settling down to the increased demands of high school standards. Thus, the sophomores contributed in only small ways to the general activities of the school. But these small ways were outstand- ing in themselves. They managed to have the largest percentage of students on the Honor Roll each quarter, several having a 4.0 average. Band and Chorus memberships were also increased substantially. Athletically, too, their contributions were many. Johnny Ellis was a whirlwind on the football team and Maustapha Zihiri, an Egyptian boy, helped the basketball team. All in all, the sophomores proved that quality can come in quanity. They have contributed to the school as a whole while moulding a firm base for their next two years.
