Key Club members started the year off on the right foot by smilingly directing traffic to minimize the first day con- fusion ftop lefty. During the first week the new administration, inspired by Mr. Moore Qtop centery, gained the whole-hearted support of the students by encouraging their desire for self-government. The mature attitude shown by the student body enabled the administration to reduce the number of activities and place more emphasis on scholarship. The next major step was the adoption of a new constitution ftop rightj which provided for a more democratic student government by allowing increased representation. Elections and activities burst upon the scene immediately with many new ideas. Among them were sports events fsecond rightj, highlighted by the creation of a wrestling teamg sales campaigns, expecially by the Sophomore Class, fthird rightig plays, with the senior class holding theirs in the round flower rightyg assemblies, dances, including the Winter Ball given for the first time by the Sophomore Class flower centerj and a Leadership Conference Qlower lefty which enabled the officers of clubs and activities to discuss leadership policies and organize the school activities. If, while wandering through the halls some day after school, one happens to pass Room 176,the boom of a jolly Dutchman's voice will halt one in mid-stride. , , , by the Way, the only way to learn a languageg you must memorize your vocabulary! . . . lectures the reprimanding voice of Herr Arnold Hemmann, former native of Rotterdam, who has presided over French and German classes at Frankfurt High for thirteen years. Sternly he chids one of the students constantly present in front of his desk after school hours, but the smile playing around his lips belies the harshness of the command. This temperamental patriarch has inspired his students with his individuality and Won their hearts with his fluctuating moods, from its stern Ruhe!, when he is busy, to his cool jokes auf Deutsch, with his ever present coke bottle, or with his water pistol for nodding heads. A class with Herr Hemmann is always an experience, for learning is left to the individual and one never knows what to expect next. To you, Herr Hemmann, for the atmosphere of action and good-will thatyoucreate,we dedicate the 1962 Frankfurt Focus. 4 l
