There are two special branches of the band which are used for certain occasions. The pep band played at all pep rallies because it was easier to accommodate a smaller number in the gymnasium. The dance combo composed of qbottom, left to rightj Bob Lockyer, Bob Bullard, Knox Herndon, Randall Bond, Olin Stewart, Jerry Griffith, Frank Dennis, and Barbara Catlin as well as Mary Reiner , the pianist met after school twice a week for the experience and enjoyment of playing in that type of group. They performed as part of the Science Fair reception held on March 22 in Frankfurt. H32 , . iii !-K. ,V 1, A, 0 ,.s0!lif'Pinm aaa-many, gms? Is 'E if .' 160 K3 3 ww ' ,,2,L. All Uzaieoha Mr. Ried, the instrumental music teacher has been attempting to convince students and USAREUR officials that an orchestra is a necessary addition to the musical life of the school. Last year his hopes were partially realized when he was able to initiate the String Quartet. This year, that group expanded into a full orchestra of approximately twenty-five members. This group has no assigned daily periods, except two activity periods, so members were obliged to practice on their own time. The all-important string section is the weakest part of the group because the six violins, cellist, Violist, and bass Violist have had little training. Shown here ftopj are Conrad Field, bass violistg Jane Kadlec, Qbackj second violing Marsha Taft, first violing Trudy Barret, frightj cellog and Mr. Ried, who is helping out. The other sections of the group were gleaned from the band. Lois Kauffman Qsecond lefty does double duty playing both the flute and picollo. Part of the woodwind and brass section fbottom lefty consisting of Larry Slade, oboeg Martha White, Francisco Angeles fhiddenl, and Frank Dennis, clarinetg and Charles Posy, Quentin Kardos, Russ McCall, and Sam Murphy, trumpet.
