Wledlateem A muffled melody moves down the hall during the day's first class period and all F.H.S.,'ers know that the Mellowteens have started the day with a song. Under the direction of Miss Virginia Johnson, this group of select performers has classical, religious, and popular songs in its repertoire. Performing for P.T.A. meetings, wives' Clubs, and German schools in the Frankfurt area requires continuous preparation by these black and gold robed songsters. They also entertained the student body in the Veterans' Day and Christmas assemblies. The climax of a successful year came when the first note was sung at the all-USAREUR Music Festival held at F.H.S. in the spring. 155

All were inexperiencedg but con- stant practice molded them into a fac- simile of their older, more experienced meters -- the Varsity Squad. Inventing new cheers or borrowing, when neces- sary, these girls tirelessly polished their routines and eagerly grasped all opportunities to heighten school spirit. 154 I PAT HANNON MARY ADAMS LINDA TOPP
