Wann Society The Frankfurt chapter of the National Honor Society was established in 1950 and ranks with the Student Council as Frankfurt's oldest active student organization. The members are chosen by the faculty according to their fulfillment ofthe qualities of Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. Scholarship is the criterion used to decide which students will be considered for membership. The candidate must have a 3.4 cumulative average for all preceding high school work in order to be considered for membership and a 3.2 average must be maintained to remain an active member. Due to these rigid qualifications, only a small fraction of the student body belongs to this group. The aim of this society is the encouragement of scholarship Within the school. The traditional tapping ceremony, held twice a year, informs the new members of their admittance and honors them in front of the student body. In the spring these students receive their membership cards during a candlelighting ceremony to which their parents are invited. Afterwards, the parents are given a chance to meet each other and the students during a special tea held in the Oglesby Hall Lounge. To encourage greater competition among the school body, the Honor Society entertains those students who attain an average of 3.4 each quarter. Often these gatherings feature a speaker or performer but sometimes only refreshments are served. In addition to these annual projects, the society financed new books for the library by selling embossed protective book covers and Frankfurt letterhead stationery.
