CLARK DEQ Schmid Twenty-one DEG High Schools, spread throughout Germany, France, Italy, and Ethiopia, maintain a high level of education for dependents of the overseas command. Each school has been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Often working under adverse conditions, such as overcrowding, lack of funds, materials, and teachers, and the transportation of students from outlying areas, the U.S, Army Dependents Education Group, working from its headquarters in Karlsruhe, coordinates the operation of the school in seven districts. The dependent school program was established on May 4, 1946, with a total enrollment of 3,087. Election signs, posters, slogans were every- where . . . elections for clubs, classes, and the student council body seemed to be the order of the day. The first voting to take place at F.H.S. was for the new Student Government Constitution ftop, lefty, Approximately two-thirds of the 1200 mem- bered student body voted for a new system of student government for Frankfurt High. Next to come were the student council elections. A spirited poster campaign Cbottom, lefty kept the names of the candidates before the student body. Class elections began soon after with the Soph- omore Class holding theirs first, Pat Hannon fsecond, lefty lists her qualifications for treasurer while the other sophomore class candidates look on. The Senior Class held an aggressive and harrowing election which resulted inamost unusual situation for F.H.S. and the senior class . . . co-presidents, Ann Carleton fthird, lefty delivers her candidacy speech for secretary before an assembly of her constituents. After the voting there remains the tedious , yet exciting, tast of counting the ballots. Ken Henson and Bill Sandalls fbottom, righty ably perform this task.
