So much of our surroundings arc changing. The uptown is growing, expanding to better serve the Frankfort area. The Sears building we once went shopping in, is now being torn down and made into a parking lot. The old Boy's Club has been converted into a mini-mall, with a gym above it. Kentucky Fried Chicken moved from West Walnut out to the East end of town. Dominoes will move in its old spot. The famous Strip will be out of use while the jog is being repaired. Wal-Mart moved in out by the high school, along with several other businesses, not to mention Ponderosa. Condo's are being built anywhere there's room, and a new motel was built. Two years ago we watched Clinton Prairie break the ground to build their new elementary-middle school. This year we watch as we prepare to build a new middle school out behind the high school. We will never forget the pond and the woods that are now being replaced with steel and concrete. The scenes are changing and they are changing in Frankfort. Old buildings are being torn down. Pictured here are the Sears building and the Ingram building. Gone are memories and past ideas. Replaced with new dreams and growing hopes.

What happened throughout the world this year, what or who made the news? On September 1st, the U.S. Navy research vessel, Knorr, discovered the Titanic. Missouri became a split state in the World Series with Cardinals against the Royals. Also in the baseball scene, let's hear it for Pete Rose. With 4,192 hits he ties Ty Cobb's most hits in a career record. Who can forget the Chicago Bears? A world class football team that can dance and sing. Not only did they win Super Bowl XX, but they raised money for charity, singing the Super Bowl Shuffle. How about John McMahon the punk haircut quaterback wearing those headbands? or the Frige William Perry, definitely a big fellow. The world united for a memorable cause — starvation in Africa. The top singers and bands came together to raise more than $37 million in the Live Aid concert. The smash hit, We Are the World, helped to feed the starving children across the Ocean. On November 19th, Reagan and Gorbachev met for the first round of talks in the Geneva Summit. December 12th was the last time, for along time, for Halley's comet to be seen. What about the serious problem with Libya? Did President Reagan go to far in punishing Muammar Kaddafi with the strikes against the country? Terrorists — travelers biggest fear. They haunted airlines and caused many heartaches in American families. NASA, will they discover the default that ended the lives of the astronauts, not to mention the first school teacher in space? The biggest bash of the year took place in New York over the fourth of July. America celebrated the Statue of Liberty's birthday with a grand party. What was in, what was out? Coca-Cola made a big flop by introducing New Coke and getting rid of old Coke. But, New Coke couldn't make it on its own, and Coke now has three products. Cherry Coke, New Coke and Coca-Cola Classic. Coke also came out with their own clothing line. Bruce Springsteen and Don Johnson became the top men to watch. Bruce, wearing hightops and worn out 501's stunned his audiences in concert. Don, wearing the lose clothing of unconstructed Jackets, baggy pants and tight shirts influenced the t.v fans of Miami Vice. Reebok hit the fashion scene with a hot line of tennis shoes, hats and sweats. Stirrups, paisleys, oversized shirts and Swatches were also in the scene. Rambo became a smash in the box office and a hero to the young ones. There were Rambo toy guns, dolls and even cereal. Another Rocky movie was released along with another Friday 13th, and Physco. Pee Wee Herman became famous riding his bike, in his own movie. Out of Africa and WhiteNights were two more top movies to see. Miami Vice and the Cosby Show captured the television scene. NEWS The woods we were once familiar with will be gone. They will be replaced with the new middle school. Isn't funny how many changes just our school has gone through. Below is pictured the first junior high and high school Frankfort had. 20
