EXPRESSIONS Many things have been learned about teen attitudes through studies and surveys. Students have definite ideas and basic views about several different subjects that are important today. Students from each class were asked their views about these subjects and here are the results. What's Important Do teens today feel it is important to be a part of the IN'' crowd? Most students answered yes to this with this reasoning in mind. It's not cool to be a loner. The next question was. do most teens make their social lives top priority? Overwhelming the answer to this was yes. Quoted from an anonymous person, they responded with a ‘yes’ saying, they (teens) can't do anything without their friends. If you don't have a social life things get pretty boring. The last question asked was, are self images important to teens today? Yes , was the definite answer to this. Grades How do most teens feel about their grades, and do they feel it is important to have a high S.A.T. score? Teresa Moore felt that the students care, but hate to show it! While Amber Storm believes that grades are pretty important, but not most important. When asked about S.A.T. scores students agreed that it was important to score high, but it's possible to be accepted by the college of your choice, even if your scores aren't exceptionally high, you should care and try your best, because just about everyone wants to go to college. A college won't accept you if your scores are really low or you have poor grades. Friendship How is the word friends defined and how do we define the word friendship? Everyone describes them differently but most agree that a friend is someone who accepts you as you are, listens to your every word, who is there when you are hurting, you'll always feel close too, you're comfortable to be with, lets you think freely and helps you through your biggest problems. A friendshp is defined as a special gift to cherish forever. When we asked which was a more important friend, a certain girlfriend, a boyfriend, or a friend? Friends came up as more important because right now they are the people you can count on and fall back on. Church How important is church and religion to teens today? We asked three questions under this topic and came up with split ideas. Do you go to church, was the first question we asked. Over half the students went to church. The students who did not go to church said that because they didn't go doesn 't mean they did not believe in Cod. When asked if it was important to have a close relationship with God, surprisely most said no . Teens are probably lazy and think that religion is something to be ashamed of. Most teens answered that they prefer practicing religion at church. Everyone has their own right to decide what religion they want to practice, and where they do it. Drugs Drug abuse is the number one killer of teens today. Using drugs and drinking is a problem that is surfacing in high schools around the nation. I think teens drink and take drugs to belong in the IN crowd, said Kim Gibson in answering, do teens take drugs and drink to belong? She answered yes to the following two questions. Do teens drink and take drugs to feel tough and to get rid of their pressures? Renee Wood felt that most kids think they're tough if they drink. The more they drink, the 'cooler' they are. Amber Storm stated that when teens drink and take drugs to rid of their pressures, they are just creating more. 19
