Hey! they're taking our picture Kim. ROW 3. 'They caught me! Mr. Waddell and Mrs. Montgomery eat lunch while watching the cameraman take their picture. 5 6 I am an exchange student at Frankfort Senior High School this year. My whole name is Marko Seppo Miesmaa, but many of my friends call me only Marco or Mark. My hometown in Finland is Oulu. It's almost the same size as Lafayette is here in Indiana. Our weather is almost the same kind as it is here. In the middle of December the sun is up only 2 hours in Finland. But then middle of June the sun is down only 2 hours. In winter usually we get 6 feet of snow, but we sometimes have Christmas without snow. In Finland our school system is different than here. Our week schedule is the same, but each day is different. Our school days are of different lengths. Sometimes we go to school 8 hours in one day. So school begins and ends at different times. In schools we don't have different kinds of teams like in the U. S. We have clubs outside school (example YMCA). Those clubs play each other, like schools play here. Most of the students don't work after school. Usually we work in the summer. If you are a student than your salary is without tax and it’s almost as much as here. Now I have told a little about Finland and I say that everybody is welcome to Finland. My name is Anne-Mette Moe. I am 16 years old and from Norway. It is very interesting for me to learn how people live here and how your school is. It is a whole lot different from what I am used to, but I like it except for the long school day. In Norway we get out of school about 2 o'clock. In Norway I live about 15 miles from the capitol and I often go there shopping with my friends so it's pretty strange for me to have to stay here in town all the time but except for that Frankfort is pretty much like where I live. I'm Magda Van Der Heyden, I'm from Holland. I'm 17 years old, and I came here the 17th of August, 1976. I leave in July 1977 and in the meanwhile I go to an American highschool (FSHS), live with an American family and try to learn the American way of life. So far, I enjoyed it very much, have found most Americans very friendly and helpful. I've made a lot of friends, I will always remember and hope to correspond with when I return home Frankfort is like my hometown, small, close and nice. I like to live in it. I love my family, I love Frankfort and its people. I love it to be in America. I am Denise Azambuja, exchange student from Brazil. I attend Frankfort High School in my senior year. I come from small town in the southern part of Brazil call Estrela. In my town 1 attend a private Catholic School. I always though of visiting a foreign country and my first choice was the U. S. A. Really, it is wonderful being here. Everyday I learn and understand something more. I start to understand the people, what the people have for me and what I have for the people. Everything is important; family, friends, school, city. Frankfort is a very nice town, I like it very much. It's a clean city and I like to pay attention to the architecture styles of the houses and buildings, it is very different to what I am used to seeing in Brazil. Everything is very nice especially when you have good friends like I have here and I can feel that this is my home too. This being due mainly to inexperience, however, there were a few who excelled, Dave Knight, Jeff Moore and Craig Bures were runners-up in the Sectionals. Brad Kriel and Joe Shanks both won in the Sectionals and Kriel continued on to the Semi-State before losing. Next years team should profit from the experience of this season. 1. The majority of the games, that were lost, was only by 2 or 3 points. One team they lost to was Clinton Prairie in the Sectionals, who went on to win the Sectionals and did well in the Regionals. Next year should be better with 5 returning letter winners and several from Jr. Varsity who will be ready to play Varsity. They had some outstanding offensive players such as Van Cun- ningham, Chris McPhearson and Linda Routh. Also some fine defensive players such as Sana Norris, Marlene Posey and Nancy Timmons. Rebounding from a 15-9 record and the Sectional Championship, the starters of Joe Ruch, Craig Gallipo, Mark Eades, Mick Isgrigg, and Brian Ewing were back for another successful season. Neil Yates, Randy Berry, Pat Foster, and Dan Riegle provided very valuable substitute roles. The Hot Dogs rolled up 13 consecutive victories before falling to McCutcheon 77-66, then went on to finish out the regular season play with an outstanding 19 and 1 record. Perennial basketball powers - - Logansport, Lafayette Jeff, Crawfordsville, Greencastle, and Lebanon were casualties of the Hot Dogs this year. They wrapped up the Sagamore Conference with a 5 and 0 record and finished with a loss to Mooresville in the final game of the Regional and ended with the best record 23-2. At one point of the season the 1977 Sectional Champs were rated 10th in the State and were consistently ranked 15th most of the year. Individual accomplishments also highlighted this season. Sagamore All-Conference selections were: Joe Ruch, Mark Eads, Craig Gallipo, and Mick Isgrigg. Mark Eades was chosen to the Academic All-State Team sponsored by the Indian Basketball Coaches Association and Joe Ruch was honored with Honorable Mention All-State and All Lafayette Area First Team. E. earned enough money by selling Tom Wat to attend the C. O. E. national convention in Houston Texas. These six were Joetta Middleton, Jamie Brown, Kathy Ewing, Teresa Roush, Debbie Carter and Barri Leach. While in Houston these girls attended meetings went to Astro-World, visited the Astrodome. They also had contests went to a rodeo and a banquet. These girls were only six of four hundred from Indiana to go to Houston and it seemed to be a very interesting trip. Tere a9; 109 I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about how this years Cauldron was put together. Quite frankly, it was completed with long periods of frustration, enthusiasm and most of all, hard work. I know that the average student doesn't realize, when he is walking past the Cauldron room door, that a record of his school year is being made and how hard it is to finalize. Members of the 1976-77 staff were Genie Webb who did all of the color sections, Jim Hollis who sold ads and helped put the advertising together, Jerry Toney on sports, Greg Matthews who did the seniors, Underclassmen and Graduation pages, Don Reno on Academics and just about every where else, Dan Sheets and Steve Jacobs on Photography. To all these people, I give my deepest respect and gratitude. The two guys that really made things work were Reece Heninger, Adviser and Dick Maurer, American Yearbook Representative. For all they have done for us, we would like to dedicate the 1977 book to these really great people. I think that you will agree with us in saying that this years Cauldron is a success I We hope you will enjoy it for many years to come as you take JUST A FEW LOOKS BACK Jerry Davis, Editor Except For Album Pictures All Photography In 1977 CAULDRON By Reece Heninger And Cauldron Staff Credit For Candid Pictures Of Cross Country Basketball Go To Mr. Meyer Mr. Kelley
