all i its The American educational system, probably the greatest contribution to the Ameri- can way ot lite, is primarily based on the concept that learning to do and doing to learn is basic to the growth and development ot an individual. Education becomes more than a process of cultural transmission. The curricula of the modern secondary school, organized and prepared by educa- tors, contributed to by economists, humanists, scientists and technologists, backed up with the finest technical equipment, not only permit etticient instruction but direct the individual student into an active participation in the educational program.

Waldo Wood, superintendent of schools, is a believer in democratic methods in education, by which ine dividuals may develop their talents, initiatives, and personalities to make them better citizens in a areater America. Dr. Wood has had many more duties and responsibilities thrust upon him this year, due to emergencies in education coexistent with war developments, but he has accepted them in his usual cheery etticient manner. ln the American system of educa tion, administration and control is centered in the local community. This control in the city ol Frankfort is vested in the school board, cone sistina ot Lance Harland, President: Clayton Cook, Treasurery Waldo Wood, Superintendent of schools: Fred Petty, Secretary. Pauline Hollis, secretary, and Dorothea Gillis, bookkeeper, find their tasks are numerous but interestina in the oiiice ot the superintendent. They do the ordering ot supplies tor the school city, take care ot the busi- ness ot the board, write salary checks tor teachers and the ern- ployees, and take care of many oth' er duties connected with the super- intendents ottice.
