CHANCJES IN CURRICULUM ACGd9m1C Changes Thrs year due to the addrtrons to the hrgh school burldrng rt has been possrble to add s veral new academrc courses to our currrculum Four classes rn College Entrance Englrsh have been organrzed for Senro s Stre s rs placed on grammar and on theme wrrtrng rather than on lrterature A Semor Scrence course arms to grve the students an rdea o Nhat to buy and how to select the best grade of goods for therr money lt rs largely consumer scrence Chemlstry and Physrcs courses have been altered slrghtly The standards of achlevement have been rarsed so that students wrll be rr ore adequately prepared to enter scrence courses rn college Alternate courses rn Physrcal Educatron and Healtl are offered rn sep arate classes for all boys and for all grrls of the Freshman and Sophomore years Industnal Courses For several years the need has been felt for addrtronal educatronal facrl rtres to accommodate the students who do not plan to contrnue therr formal educatron after araduatrng from hrgh school The lndustrral Educatron Department has done much to rmprove our school rn the way of reparr and constructron work At Chrrstmas trme under the drrectlon of Mr C E Summervrlle head of the department and other rnstructors our school burldrng was rrnpressrvely decorated wrth beautrful lrghts and ch mes that tnsprred the entrre communtty General Shop has been offered rn our school for several yea s and rs a prereqursrte for all the other vocatrorwal courses for boys Here the student gets the foundatron work needed for the specralrzed vocatronal courses such as Electrrcal Trades Burldrng Trades and Auto Mechanrcs three new rndus trral courses whrch have been added to our currrculum thrs year ln Burldrng Trades emphasrs rs placed on constructron work The boys have burlt cabrnets tool rooms and concrete flood lrght bases They plan to burld bleachers for the athletrc freld Plectrrcal Trades students are drvrded rnto three alternatrng groups l motor work the boys burlt an arc Welder and rewound small motors and armatures the radro group learned the theory of radros and reparred all types of them Practrce wrrrng was done rn the classroom booths Thrs group mstalled the flood lrghts rn front of our burldrng ln the Auto Mechanrcs Course the boys learn fundamental parts and nomenclature o vanous models They get as much of the fourtdatron work as rs possrble rn one year The Home Economrcs department added two new courses thrs year lndustrral Sewrng mcludes cuttmg frttrng and constructron of garments The grrls begrn wrth srmple garments such as aprons pajamas cotton dre ses garments of rayon srlk and wool They rnrsh the course wrth a Jacket a surt or a coat The Cafeterra Management class trams both boys and grrls for actual work rn commercral foods establr hments All management proolems food preparatron and servrce cashrerrng and checkrng are handled DY the stu dents lt rs the arm of our cafeterra to gtve our students the best food at ci mmrmum prrce .
