The Frankford High School history began in May, 1584, when William Penn sold to Henry Waddy the tract of land on which the school now stands, ln 1909 this tract of land was sold to the City of Philadelphia, The Frankford Annex of the Central High School opened in a building of the Wister estate in September, 1910, under Mr. Cui Alvin Snook, The class totaled thirty- seven boys The history of Frankford has rapidly advanced In November, 1910, the Pioneer, the school magazine, was established. The following year a Student Board was organized, as well as Ye Spooks and Ye lVlonks e the first two school clubs, ln December of the same year a six room annex, the doghousef' was opened. The Fathers' Association was formed in Janu- ary, 1912. Shortly after, crimson, gold, and blue were adopted as the school colors, The Alumni and Athletic Associations were organized in 1914, Later in that same year ground was broken for the present building, with the cornerstone being laid in February, 1915. The first classes in this building were held in January, 1916, with 480 boys and 310 girls attending, In the follow- ing year, the first class of thirteen boys was graduated, The first co-ed graduating class was graduated in June, 1918. The Memorial Stadium was dedicated in November, 1922, Three years later the first issue of the High Way was printed, The following year the pipe organ was dedicated. Thomas Moore became acting principal of Frankford in 1927, followed by Dr, Frank L Cloud in 1931, and John W, Hitner in September, 1946, The Dog House was demolished in February, 1953, and the new gymnasium construction began.
