The Frankford High School history began in May, 1584, when William Penn sold to Henry Waddy the tract of land on which the school now stands, ln 1909 this tract of land was sold to the City of Philadelphia, The Frankford Annex of the Central High School opened in a building of the Wister estate in September, 1910, under Mr. Cui Alvin Snook, The class totaled thirty- seven boys The history of Frankford has rapidly advanced In November, 1910, the Pioneer, the school magazine, was established. The following year a Student Board was organized, as well as Ye Spooks and Ye lVlonks e the first two school clubs, ln December of the same year a six room annex, the doghousef' was opened. The Fathers' Association was formed in Janu- ary, 1912. Shortly after, crimson, gold, and blue were adopted as the school colors, The Alumni and Athletic Associations were organized in 1914, Later in that same year ground was broken for the present building, with the cornerstone being laid in February, 1915. The first classes in this building were held in January, 1916, with 480 boys and 310 girls attending, In the follow- ing year, the first class of thirteen boys was graduated, The first co-ed graduating class was graduated in June, 1918. The Memorial Stadium was dedicated in November, 1922, Three years later the first issue of the High Way was printed, The following year the pipe organ was dedicated. Thomas Moore became acting principal of Frankford in 1927, followed by Dr, Frank L Cloud in 1931, and John W, Hitner in September, 1946, The Dog House was demolished in February, 1953, and the new gymnasium construction began. Aside from the music which was played during the time we ate, a trio consisting of members of the class played for our listening and dancing pleasure Along with the trio, other entertain- ment was presented by seniors with special abilitaes, The Committee which consisted of Jane Sidel- sky, chairman, Sally Alexander, Martha DePue, Mary Frick, Steve Kinsley, Patricia McKee, James Palmer, and Margery Wainer, brought many ideas from their advisory sections to make the luncheon a memorable occasion. Everyone on the Luncheon Committee appre- ciated the guiding help of Mr, William Schoen- leber and Mrs Walter Bahr, without whose assistance the luncheon would not have been as successful as it was BUSINESS MANAGERS Our Business Managers are girls and boys who give of their time to perform many small services for their fellow students, There is a Business Manager for each advisory They collect money for the Record Book, care for the class pins and distribute them, collect the class dues, and take care of any other miscellaneous tasks. Mr, Walter Bahr is the co-ordinator, l-lis job is to keep all the records of the Business Managers, care for the money collected, arrange for the senior trip, and dispose of all other details. We are very grateful for the untiring efforts of Mr. Bohr. Our Business Managers are Lee l-litchens, Irene I-luber, Ann Mackey, Barbara Rebmann, Dorothy Sliwka, Judie Travis, Charlotte Candy, Lois Burkett, Leonard Beckett, and John Dabose, enlor Prom Committee Th grcauofw Q CIQQQ 4 orwucr cwd JU H P r fr rf 1 VNCO :xfmw hmm r H Cr Fronkl rw HOTQI C ,ml-C no w Vccv d for D fm n gm Ccx rw re Cm mfr Cn rc Sd li N er H gm 1 Q crchfftro fnb r C Cv Ldlrg cr rc QP rot wdmo Mcbolclk Jdwc cccc O fcwcwh Lrf GCQQ C9 CVT p C X ro kc V040 C C rw Q 0 r, rom xx W x. We danced to the music of the Tom Darlington Orchestra from nine to twelve. Each girl, on arriving, received a lovely sterling silver charm which she kept as a memento of a wonderful evening. After the dance, couples went to different night spots in Philadelphia and nearby New Jersey. Many of us went to breakfasts and parties which lasted until the wee, wee hours of the morning. We will never forget the sparkle and gaiety of our Senior Prom. ff ' ,Ax Va 'ik' 4 . 7 X Y wi- U 4 A W .gtk M 'ar X if , . .,, 2, ..K. .,.,A9 , W J , in X fl!
