In July of that same year, the feat was accomplished. Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin in the EAGLE landed on Earth's nearest neighbor while Michael Collins orbited overhead in the COLUMBIA command module. One of the first broadcasts to Earth stated, ' Tranquility Base here. The EAGLE has landed. '' That was ten years ago. To commemorate this historic event, the 1979 Eyrie staff has chosen as the theme for this yearbook ''The Eagle has landed.'' H T DEPARTMENT OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AND APPLIED MECHANICS February 20, Frankenmuth High School 525 East Genesee Street Frankenmuth, MI 48734 To the Readers of this Eyrie: The Roman legions marched under an eagle bearing standard. Over the centuries many nations have selected the eagle as the national bird or emblem. The United States, too, found the strength and grace of the eagle to be a fitting symbol of our national resolve. It was altogether fitting that America's first craft to descend from the sky to land on another celestial body bear the name Eagle . Your Eyrie is the home of Eagles. If you live up to the name, you will serve your country well. It was designed to see if || a number of people could survive in small quarters for a prolonged period of time. The sophomore could be seen as a parallel. After three years at Frankenmuth High School, the senior class of 1979 found itself at the decision point. Likewise with the space program. For both there could be an end or a new beginning. One could be satisfied with limited but important goals. Or one could continue to reach for new heights not yet imagined. Skylab, for all its valuable lessons, ended in a rather ignominous fireball just short of ten years after man set foot on the moon. But the space shuttle promises new achievements and rewards. Likewise, to terminate one's goals after leaving FHS may seem short-sighted but will undoubtedly be of little value. Let us not forget that there are still many goals to achieve. And there are more than enough of them for all of us to set our sights on one and pursue it. 62 FIRST ROW: Mark Adams, Cheryl Barger, Matt Barrett, Andrea Batkie. The theme of this inventive musical is the conflict between the happiness of life-at-home and the joy of adventure. A world-roving photographer returns to a French-Canadian village hoping to recover the ''Happy Time'' of his childhood. Jacques takes his still bon vivant father and his teenage nephew to visit a team of dancers who sing ''Catch My Garter.'' Bibi, fascinated by the carefree world of his uncle, proposes to drop out of school and become his assistant. Bibi's parents are hurt and angry and his teacher, a lovely girl secretly in love with Jacques, also disapproves. The conflict reaches a climax when Jacques' father sternly tells him he is stealing Bibi's affection. Jacques rallies to the challenge and disenchants Bibi with the idea of dropping out. The Happy Time ran a full season on Broadway where it won two Tony Awards, one of them for Robert Goulet. It also received a warm welcome at FHS. 119 — One Acts (No Less) 120 PE 1.
