BANDS ARE COLORFUL In addition to directing the high school band, James Van DeVelde also guides The marching band which plays at the football games, and leads the Bavarian band dur- ing The annual June festival. Under his leadership, The band gave its usual Two concerts and, for The first Time, played in an assembly Tor the student body. The band has participated in a number of solo and ensemble festivals and other competi- tive events. There is also a pep band under the guidance of John Eaton, stu- dent director. Students of August Kehrberg's American history and government class studiously pose for our camera. Jo Geyer, Donna Krueger, Becky Creger, Faye Bronner, and Ruth Abraham re-created the fight for women's rights, IDEAS. PAST AND PRESENT The broadening complexities of our rapidly progressing world emphasized the growing need of knowledge in the social sciences. World Affairs, a sophomore class instructed by Alan Durkee, was specifically designed to meet this challenge. It has succeeded in acquainting the student with cur- rent events and awakening his po- litical awareness. After completing this subject, pupils were given the necessary historical and governmen- tal background, in classes of United States and Latin American history, and government as taught by August Kehrberg, Roger Tompkins, Mrs. Mar- gret Willis, and Alan Durkee, to further clarify and broaden the picture of the world situation. as this era was being studied in Roger Tompkins' fourth hour history class. Alan Durkee and Ken Huber seem to be having a disagreement over a map location in sixth hour history class.
