As illustrated throughout the book, each segment of the school program, the groups supporting the school, and those composing the student body plays a vítal role in mak- ing our high school what it is, We wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our advertisers for their generous support, our parents for their understanding and co-operation, and our ad- visor, Mrs. Margret Willis, for the counsel and advice she has given for this student project. To an outstanding citizen of Frankenmuth, Lorenz List, who, after forty years of valuable service, is retiring from the board of education, we dedicate the 1963 Eyrie. Mr. List was born in Frankenmuth on November 12, 1894. Upon completion of his elementary education, he attended International Business College in Saginaw for six months. Before his service at the Frankenmuth State Bank, he worked as assistant postmaster in Frankenmuth. Through the co-operation of the board of education, the superintendent of schools, the principal, coun- selors, and faculty, each student in the Frankenmuth school district is offered a well-rounded educa- tion and is encouraged to develop his social, physical, and mental abilities to the fullest. Rittmueller, secretary; and Wal- ter Frahm, president. un er TT gis clark Ai wi 8 lak Suë A AU — 3 Superintendent of Schools Assuming the responsibilities of super- intendent of the Frankenmuth School District for his third year is Richard Ziehmer. Following his graduation from Pontiac High School, he served in the army. Mr. Ziehmer graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree and ob- tained his Master's degree from the University of Michigan. Before his position as superintendent in 1960 he served at FHS for one vear as an English teacher and debate and forensics coach; in 1959 he was ap- pointed high school principal. Principal Preceding his service as principal of Frank- enmuth High School in 1953, Robert Wal- len taught mathematics and shop at FHS, Mr. Wallen graduated from Central Michi- gan University and, resigning his duties as principal of Frankenmuth High in'1958, he continued graduate study at the University of Michigan from which institution he had completed his Master's degree in 1953, Since 1960, when he returned to Franken- muth, he has served as the high school's principal, L Guidance and Counselling Assisting students in the depart- ment of guidance and counselling at Frankenmuth are Mrs. Helena Kaczynski and Homer Stinchcombe. Mrs. Kaczynski works on a part- time basis while Mr., Stinchcombe serves as head of the guidance and testing program. Both have Master's degrees from the University of Michigan and are graduates of Central Michigan University. Mrs. Kaczynski advises a student as to what courses would be most beneficial for her vocational choice. = mz 77] وين pt ہے Lundi mn. Wie ol rr Y ba SÉ Secretaries Mrs. Charlotte Worley, the efficient secretary for Mr. Wallen's office, is always willing to help students find teachers, rooms, and school information. In order to graduate, a stu- dent at Frankenmuth High School is required to take four years of English. The games follow a period of calisthenics and physical fitness activities done each day. Through her constant efforts and planning, many new books have been added to the growing library. She was crowned by last year's Queen, Kathy Uebler. Floats circled the field during half- time, and the senior and freshman classes jointly received first place honors, The Queen and her attendants reigned over the homecoming dance following the game. Diane was presented with a crown, a bou- quet of roses, and a football auto- graphed by the team members. It displayed | the replica of an Eagle player skillfully dodging a ۱ model of an oncoming Hatchet player from Bad Axe. The senior float shared first place honors with the | freshman entry for its third consecutive first place Fm award, d | | The junior class float depicted a victorious Eagle dominating the game with Bad Axe. Overpowering the Hatchets, the massive bird protects not only his own goal post, but the entire field from the plays of the oppos- ing team. as AU u.a. Urging the Eagles to Bury the Hatchets are the freshmen with this entry. With a lone Gravedigger on board the float de- picted the superiority of the Eagle team over other already buried opponents. The resting for the Hatchet team was already partially dug. This float tied for first with the senior float. The sophomore float displayed a Frankenmuth Eagle riding an automated football to its own goal post. The bird left a broken Hatchet be- hind on the field and made use of signs pointing the way to victory. Ac OT A تلك e ہر 7 ee N jan Baccalaureate and Commencement The baccalaureate service for the eighty-one members of the class of 1963 was held on June 2, 1963, in St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, of Frankenmuth. Rev. John Deterding gave an inspiring scripture reading and bacca- laureate address. The processional and recessional were played by Lowell Borcherding. Commencement exercises for the graduates were held on the sixth of June, in the gymnasium, Richard Nuech- terlein played the processional and recessional, and the invocation and convocation were given by Rev. Lawson Knight of Immanual Lutheran Church of Frankentrost. Superintendent of the Frankenmuth School District, Rich- ard Ziehmer, introduced the speakers which included June Block, salutatory address, Irene Schiefer, the vale- dictory address, and Professor Robert Iglehart, chairman of the Department of Art at the University of Michigan, whose topic was, The Great Times.
