Bunnell’s first victory was over cross town rival Stratford with a score of 14-12. They then went on to defeat Notre-Dame. After suffering many injuries and losses mid-season, the football team came back and finished strong with a tri- umph over Bullard-Havens Tech, 22-14. They then won the traditional Thanksgiving Day game, topping Jonathan Law 20-6. Senior Craig Barnes did an outstanding job all season but he really showed his talent the last game of the season. Both Barnes and Ken Barber received MBIAC honorable mention. Gary Charney, Greg Pansa and Steve Novak held important positions on the team, and they each made second team All- MBIAC. Also making a significant con- tribution was senior Craig Waddington, and a new senior member to the squad, Melissa Tash- jian, proved to be one of the best female run- ners in Bunnell’s history. Captain, Anne Stadt- mueller, and co-captains, Anne Gruce and Amy Foote, swam exceptionally well and qualified for the State Cham- pionships, as did Sophomore, Eileen Ennis. Also swimming well were Senior, Clare McCormack and Juniors, Mau- reen Warren, Lisa Thomas, Kathy O’Neil, and Laura Neuberger. Sopho- mores showing great improvement were Kim Carroll, Connie Dato, Denise Card, Yvette Cheisa, Darlene Koetsch, Sue Ross, and Laura Eckert. Rusnak The 1979-80 season had many disappointments for the members of the Bunnell Boy’s Varsity Basketball Team. With early season wins against Kolbe, Law, Foran, and cross-town rival, Stratford High, the boys were looking forward to a great season. However, an ankle injury to senior guard Keith Royal marred the team’s hopes. Royal had been leading the team with a 20.1 point average and 9 rebounds per game. Adding to the disappointment was the loss of another senior guard, Mark Sobieraj, who was averaging 12 points per game until his last game against Tech in January. Senior Craig Waddington entered the starting line-up after Keith’s injury. Craig was an important figure in the Bunnell offensive attack. Andy Kulak, also a senior, contributed a great deal to the team, maintaining a 9.5 point-per-game average and pulling down 11 rebounds per game. Senior center Jim Lepesko played well offen- sively with a 12.5 point-per-game average and 10 caroms. Senior Tim Beardsley and junior Mike Micalizzi led the defensive attack and also added to the team’s offensive game. The Junior Varsity Team displayed a great deal of promise through their playing this season. Leading the J.V. were juniors Jeff Babineau, Jim Alvord, Bob Rusnak, Gary Jossick, and sophomore Steve Zuiewski. These groups begin working in the middle of the summer learning drill formations in addition to memorizing music, and pom- pom and flag routines, to provide the exciting shows featured at the football games and pep assemblies. This year, drum major Lisa Moore led the band in a winning season. Among the awards won was a first place trophy from the band’s first parade competition in North Adams, Massachusetts. In their first field show competition in Westwood, Massachusetts, the band placed third. The band also received a fourth place award in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. In all the competitions there were bands who have been com- peting longer than Bunnell. The competition season is over in the late fall and the marching band becomes a concert band involved in giving Christmas and Spring concerts, and exchange concerts. In Spring, marching season begins and this year the band attended the Shenandoah Apple Blos- som Festival in Virgina, and also plans to go to the Barnum Festival. The band held a fund raiser this year consisting of selling Florida oranges which earned them new uniforms for Virginia. The Bunnell High School Marching Band looks forward to another win- ning season next year. This is a well equipped car with a 350 Vette engine, 270 horse power, and a high performance clutch. This Stingray is Corvette blue and runs on L 70-15 tires. Jon can do a 360 torque in this car. You’re sure to see him driving this gem for a long time to come. We’ve all seen Nick Tsichlas riding to school and around town in his 1978 metallic blue Z-28. The “Z” cost Nick $7,000, which he claims he paid in cash. The “Z” has a 350 engine and rides on Goodyear Radials. Nick says his car has a small backseat “but I wouldn’t give it up for anything short of a Vette.” George Lycoudes has been driving his silver Camaro Z-28 to school and around town. The “Z”, as George calls it has orange and red stripes and a 350 L-82 engine. The car was a gift from his father, who paid $9,400 for it. The interior is black and George has an AM-FM stereo cassette. He’s also got alarm system set up, so don’t even try to steal the “Z”. “Candy Apple Red” is the color of Phil Crosby’s 1967 Mustang fast- back. The engine is a 289 V-8. The car is well equipped with polished alloy mags, side pipes, and rear spoil- er. The 4-speed Mustang runs on T.A. 60’s in front and T.A. 70’s in back. Phil has an AM-FM 8-track ste- reo and is proud to say that he re- modeled the entire car himself. This orange 1969 Pontiac GTO, bet- ter known as “The Judge”, is owned by Michael Quintiliano. It consists of a 400 RamAir motor with 3 speed auto- matic Turbo Tranny that catches 2nd gear nicely. The motor is well stocked and is pushing 370 horse power. “The Judge” is orange with a blue stripe on the sides and its tires are B. F. Goodrich G60’s Melinda Evans received this 1976 Rally Sport Camaro as a gift from her parents. The light blue and black car cost $4200. It has a 305 engine and the tires are stock mags. As we can see by Melinda’s taste, cars are as important to girls as they are to guys. Remembering Those Days At The Old School Yard . . . The Laurel Staff of 1980 would like to take the Seniors back 10 years when we were about 7 or 8 years old. Remember when we prayed that we were graduating from High School instead of 2nd grade. Well, your prayers have been answered. Soon we’ll be starting on a whole new life that we used to think about when we were kids. Do you remember anything else you used to think about?
