Baylilf, S. Pope, C. Glaze SENIOR HIGH CHOIR Music is the universal language of mankindfp Wrote Longfellow, and the Senior High Choir was a Hne instrument of this language. Under the direction of Miss Eliza Plum, four public appearances were made by the choir, each a rich experience for both choir members and the public. The group, ably accompanied by Jeanne Felts, first performed at the Thanksgiving assembly in November. Next came t.l1e annual Christmas Concert, which was held in the VVillis High School auditorium. The choir pre- sented The Song of Christmas, narrated by David Hopkins. O Holy Nightv was sung by the Senior High Choir, Senior High Chorus, Girls' Glee Club, and selected Junior High Choir members. Former choir members joined in the singing of The Hallelujah Chorusi' from The Messiah by Handel., A candlelight recessional and the singing of Silent Night climaxed the presentation. The H. M. S. Pinafore, a spritely operetta from the pen of Gilbert and Sullivan, was given on March 27. The choir made its last appearance at Baccalaureate in June. The Boys, Octette and Girls' Triple trio were chosen early in the year. The two groups combined to form the Choral Ensemble which sang at several school functions. The highlight of the year was the Christmas Concert, when the group presented Twas the Night Before Christmasf' The Choral Ensemble also entertained at the W-Teen Formal, Hi-Y Key Club Spring Formal, and the Junior-Senior. 68

Axline RECREATION COMMITTEE The Recreation Center located in old North School, was enjoyed by many in its twelfth year of existencef The Rec offers dancing, pool, ping pong, and refreshments. The Been is governed by a rec center committee. This year,s committee was headed by Tom Win- ship with Sue Hasty serving as secretary. It is supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore and Mr. Sherman P. Moist, faculty advisor. '- The duties of th committee are to make the rules and regulations, purchase records and plan all special activities for the Rec This year a Halloween party and a Christmas celebration were enjoyed. Also, in the spring, the committee held a birthday party for the Rec, Up until the middle of this school year the Rec was open six nights a week, but, a new regulation made it necessary for the Rec,' to close all nights except Friday and Saturday. YOUTH FOR CHRIST The Youth For Christ Club is an organization which strives to promote Christian ideals among young people. The group believes in the saying practice what you preach, so they provided a Thanksgiving basket for a needy family. The oilicers this year were Lois Morgan, president, Alma Barker, vice-president, and Evelyn Ben- nett, secretary-treasurer. The club was assisted in its work by Mrs. Reed. Front row: D. Organ, E. Burkhart GIRLS' GLEE CLUB The Clee Club, in its third year at Willis, was very active this year. The girls, in addition to singing at the annual Christmas Concert, designed the decorations for the performance. Several members sang in the Willis production of the M. S. Pinaforef' and the club also joined with the other vocal groups to present a junior high assembly. The club consists mainly of sophomores, and serves as a training ground for the Senior High Choir. Suzy Martin is the accompanist for the group and Miss Plum is the director. SENIOR HIGH CHORUS The Senior High Chorus gives freshmen and sophomores a chance to show their musical ability. The chorus, directed by Miss Eliza Plum, made its debut at the annual Christmas Concert held at Willis. They presented three selections and joined the Senior High Choir for three finale numbers. Selplpted members of the chorus participated in the Willis production of the operetta, H. M. S. Pinafore, in e spring. The Senior High Chorus was created to give more Willis students a chance to participate in musical activities. Older members of the chorus or members of outstanding ability pass on to the Senior High Choir. Sondra Flowers, Melissa Blair, and Dan Hursey accompanied this singing group. Front row: M.
