Newhouse LATIN CLUBS This year there were three Latin I clubs and two Latin II. In Latin I, the presidents were S. Flowers, A. Flemming, and M. Blair, acting for D. Hopkins, vice presidents, I. Scott, B. Wilson, B. Strimer, secretaries, B. Ross, J. Robinson, M. Maxwell, treasurers, S. Donavan, C. Ellis, P. Oman. In Latin II, the presidents were D. Griffiths, T. Cowan, vice presidents, K. McElfresh, D. Wardle, secretaries, I. Burkhart, I. Case, treasurers, I. Marburger and T. Longwell. The Latin banquet, held in April, was called Feast of the Boundaries, the movie presented was Quo Vadis. Another important activity was the State Junior Classical League Convention held on April 11 in Mershon Auditorium. Sixty Latin club members attended, and the students supervised the Model Latin Club Workshop. A few I. C. L'ers may attend the National Convention at the University of Michi- gan this summer. In the spring the club performed and also put on their own music program bers traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to take .The program of the club was planned Lowry, president, Betsy Shearman, vice- Datha Ramey, treasurer. Miss Plum was successful year in 1957-1958. The member- twenty-six freshmen who were admitted to at the polio foundation at Magnetic Springs in a school assembly. POPULAR MUSIC The Popular Music Club was created to give more Willis students a chance to enjoy the different phases of the musical Held. During club meetings, the members participated in singing patriotic songs, show tunes, popular music, spirituals, and folk songs. These were performed by individuals as well as by the entire group. Downie, I. Reed, H. Hearn, S. Catton, S. Borland, I. Barris The French Clubs are made up of the pupils in French I and French II classes. Learning more about t.he life, customs, and language of the French are the aims of the clubs. The biggest project for these organizations was the Mardi Gras, held in the gymnasium on April 18. It was a miniature of the New Orleans festival, and was called Fairy Tales and Fantasy Landf' In the club meetings, the members took imaginary trips to France through the use of slides and movies. The students celebrated many French holidays and practiced various French customs. This year's oliicers in French II were Ann johnson, president, Gwen Opel, vice-president, Pat Glaze, secretary-treasurer, and Melinda Skatz, social chairman. In French I there were two clubs. The period III oiiicers were Iack Arnold, president, Lois Axline, vice-president, Phyliss Rayburn, secretary-treasurer, and Gene Bauman, social chairman. Period IV oiiicers were Charlene Ellis, president, Beverly Barton, vice-president, Carolyn Lowry, secretary-treasurer, and Lynne Bobula, social chairman. Miss Bussard advised both clubs.
