Teele NATIONAL EOREN SIC LEAGUE The Willis chapter of the National Forensic League, an honorary inter-scholastic speak- ing organization, enjoyed its best year on record. After enjoying much success in interschool practice speech tournaments on several winter weekends, a record number of pupils qualiied for the finals in the Ohio High School Speech League. Lynda Baylitf, Carolyn Blair, Hal Wyss, and David Landsittel, became the Erst debate squad ever to qualify for iinals from WVillis. They placed Hfth out of 22 schools in this top level state-wide competition. Other XVillis qualifiers in the individual events Held included Gwen Opel, original oratoryg Iudy Strimer, dramatic declamationg Alan Hackel, boyis extemporaneous speaking, jerry Holmes, oratoric declamation, and Sandra Bayliif, humorous declamation. President of this year's organization was David Landsittel, while Gwen Opel served as secretary. Mrs. Earl Evans was faculty advisor, assisted by Ken Creasy. BEGINNING SPEAKERS VARSITY Front row: D. Simpson FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The FHA activities began in the summer of 1957, when the group met to plan for the school year. In September, the new girls in home economics were welcomed with a Cet Acquainted Tea. The next project was the Delaware County Fair, where the club's booth won an Av grade and the members received above average ratings. In November, the chapter invited other county groups to a meeting entitled Around the VVorld in 80 Minutes. During December, the girls provided gifts for the residents of the Delaware County Home. T e main event of the year was the Queen of Hearts Dance. The theme was Valentine's Day and Carol Sue Gabriel reigned over the evening's festivities. In May, the Mother- Daughter Banquet was held. Strimer THESPIAN S Troupe 420 of the National Thespian Society completed another year of varied activities under the leadership of their sponsor, Mrs. N. S. Hearn. These activities began with the presentation of a portion of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream at the Ohio Speech Association Conference in Columbus. The Thespians also helped with the operetta, H. M. S. Pinafore. To bring the year to a successful close, the group presented a children's play, Little Red Riding Hood, to both the high school and grade school students. Ofiicers for this year were Lynda Bayliff, presidentg Alan Hackel, vice-president, Beth Perfect, secretary, and janet Allen, treasurer. ' BUOTH AND STAGE CREWS a The Booth and Stage Crew members are some of the most important behind-the-scenes students at Willis. Any senior high boy may start as an apprentice, and when he has put in sixty hours of work, he is considered a stage crew member. The duty of the stage crew is to keep the stage repaired and ready for any activity or performance. The booth crew is responsible for school movies and the spotlight during spe- cial activities. , This year the stage crew acquired new high fidelity amplifiers and a portable public address system.
