Cordial W-TEENS p Under the able leadership of Lynn Harris, president, Janet Allen, vice-president, Nancy Slagle, secretary, and Susan Pope, treasurer, the W-Teens had a very successful year. At the beginning of the year all girls were encouraged to sign up for at least one of the various committees, these included the executive, social, sports, poster, program, and bul- letin board committees. The W-Teen bulletin board, under the supervision of Ann Johnson, was one of the most popular and original services to the school. The Pep Club, under the direction of Beth Perfect and Sandy Elder, was a fine addition to the school spirit at the football games. The Big and Little Sister program, headed by Linda Carlisle, proved to be a success after being discontinued for a couple of years. The idea of the program was to help the seventh grade girls adjust to the new school life and to know some of the older girls. The clubis other service projects included babysitting on Election Day, distribution of Thanks- giving food baskets to the poor, and adoption of a family. With the help of the Hi-Y Key Club, W-Teens also collected gifts for the state hospital. The high point of the social year was the fall formal, Silver Bells, held on December 7. Another big dance was the semi-formal held in the spring. The poor manis dance required a can of food for admission. The dances were under supervision of Judy Crowl, social chairman. 46 7 7 5

Reed Under the supervision of Beth Perfect, sports chairman, volleyball, basketball, bowling, and baseball were played after school. Following last year's example, an interclass basket- ball team was formed. This yearis team consisted of three freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, and five senior girls. They were host to the Girls Industrial School and after the game a buffet style dinner was held for team members and their sponsors. One of the outstanding events of the club was the W-Teen play night when the girls got together for dinner and an evening of either volleyball or basketball. The girls pro- vided the various courses of the meal, and' spent the rest of the evening playing either volley- ball or basketball. The programs this year were exceptionally Well planned, educational, and interesting. They included a program of creative dancing, a talent show, slides of the Rose Bowl parade and Disneyland, initiation of new members, and installation of next year's oiiicers. These programs were in charge of Lynda Bayliif, program chairman. This year's faculty advisors were Miss Wells, Mrs. Barger, Miss Burrer, and Miss Harter. 47
