SOCIAL STUDIES - This field deals with the history and growth of man. 44 World History, an elective course for sophomores, traces the development of man from the prehistoric era up to modern times. The class deals with many areas of civilization-cultural, political, and social. Through the study of the world's history, the students learn how closely the growth of our own country is interwoven with that of other nations. Mrs. Orland instructs two sec- tions of this project, and Mr. Moist teaches one. One unit of American History is a requirement for graduation from Willis High School. Under the direction of Mr. Creasy, the class studied the polit- ical, social, and economic development of our country. The students used Time magazine to learn of current American policies. Mr. Creasy, one of Delawareis city councilmen, also provided the stu- dents with facts concerning the growth of our own town. Problems of Democracy is a required course for all senior students. Its pur- pose is to inform the student of the various political, social, and moral ques- tions which confront our American way of life. Under the supervision of Mr. Moist, the class studied problems concerning government, labor, farming, mental health, crime, alcohol, education, and race. The students were provided with films, lectures, tri s, and anel discus- sions conceming Siese problems.

Industrial Arts include many various kinds of work. This picture shows ninth grade class working on mechanical drawing. This class spends one semester on mechanical drawing and another on printing and house wiring. This fresh- man course gives the ninth-grader a solid background for future work in the woodworking and metal laboratories. This class is conducted by Mr. Bowman. Woodshop and Metal Shop are the two laboratories where sophomores, juniors, and seniors continue their work in the field of industrial arts. This pic- ture shows a group working in the wood- shop. Other areas of study include plas- tic, electric and gas welding, sheet metal, and machines. This wide range of study gives the students ample opportunity to choose an occupation. These courses are under the supervision of Mr. Bow- man. Business Education is a course of study which includes typing, bookkeep- ing, shorthand, oilice practice, business English, and commercial mathematics. The picture shows a class in typing, one of the important areas in the business field. It is recommended that all students have some knowledge about the various aspects of this course because business is a vital part of our world.
