Special thanks goes to Miss Olatha Benson, advisor of the annual. About fifteen years ago, a senior art class, under the supervision of Mrs. Chester Patingale, spent many days collecting ideas and designing symbols for a school seal. From much planning came a collabo- ration of the present official school seal. The torch on the seal is representative of the symbol of learning and the open book, the symbol of knowledge. The top hat stands for the late Senator F. B. Willis, for whom our school is named. Each year in the high school is represented by a star. The seal has become the official design for class rings and graduation invitations. The staff of the l956 Delhi proudly displays the seal on the cover of its yearbook. i

MR. CARL L. HOPKINS University of Akron, B.E. Ohio State University, M.A. Northwestern University Ohio Wesleyan University The summer of nineteen hundred fifty-five brought many changes in the Willis High School administrative offices. Carl L. Hopkins was elected superintendent of the Delaware City Schools to succeed the late David R. Smith. Mr. Hopkins has been with the Delaware City school system for a number of years, twelve of which he served as Principal of Willis. Mr. Hopkins has been an active member and leader in Delaware Civic organizations as well as a number of profes- sional organizations of Ohio Schools during the past few years. His professional contacts and his kindness toward the members of his teaching staff will be of paramount value in his achieving success in this new and important position. MR. THOMAS D. GRAHAM Ohio Wesleyan University, B.A., M.A. Thomas D. Graham was elected principal of Willis in ,the summer of nineteen hundred fifty-five to succeed Carl L. Hopkins. Mr. Graham has been a teacher in the Willis science department for twenty-five years. He has been an instructor in the department of education at Ohio Wesleyan University since nineteen hundred forty-three. For a number of years he served as a delegate of the Delaware City Teachers Associa- tion to the Ohio Education Association meetings.
