l THE BAND' UP WQLLIS Willis High School can be very proud of the Delaware Willis marching and concert bands. They gave numerous hours of entertainment for the high school and the citizens of Delaware. The band had eighty-seven marching members plus six high stepping maiorettes. The ma- iorettes for the l955-56 band were Helen Ufferman, Patty Thomas, Nancy Rinker, Betty Blair, Becky Smith, and Linda Longwell. The band had the opportunity to play for many occasions during the school year. Their va- rious activities included the fair, homecoming, and all of the football games. The winter concert held January 3lst featured the Junior High Cadet Band and the Senior High Concert Band. The high school band traveled to both the district and state finals in their contest work this year. Another attraction in the springtime is the annual banquet. lt is sponsored by the Band Parents Boosters Club and it is at this time that the awards are handed out. The awards are given accord- ing to the number ot years ot participation in the high school band. At the end of one year a letter is awarded, the second year a bar and tor each additional year a bar is awarded until the senior year when both a bar and a silver key are presented. The Pep Band added a great deal ot pep and enthusiasm wherever they played. Just about every week the entire school crowded into the g m and a hi h spirited student bod 'oined in Y 9 Y l and singing with the Delaware Willis Pep Band.
