Second row: Lynn Evans, James Bossert, Dick Crose, John Elliott, George Marburger, Bill Gra- i ham, Don Barringer, Alan Cavanie. i , The twenty-second annual National Honor Society initiation was held April 6, l956, at which time fifteen seniors became members of the Willis High Chapter of National Honor Society. The honor is bestowed by the faculty on not more than fifteen per cent of the graduating class. Qualities to be taken into consideration are Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Those initiated at the impressive service were: Donald Barring,er, Cynda Bayliff, James Bossert, Alain Cavanie, Betty Coover, Richard Crose, Elizabeth Dixon, Julia Drake, John Elliott, Lynn Evans, Diane Gorsuch, Sandra Green, William Graham, Joanne Kofoed, and George Marburger. Introductory remarks were made by Mr. Graham, who is chairman of the faculty sponsoring com- mittee. Miss Whitted read the names of the new members and gave their outstanding activities during high school. Mr. McCloughan made the presentation of the class, and the response was given by Mr. Graham. Mr. Hopkins then introduced the speaker, Mr. Roy Bossert, who gave the address. As isthe custom, the faculty entertained the new members at a luncheon at Bun's Restaurant. ln T952 a new policy was adopted by the faculty for the election of members. ln order to take the voting out of the realm of the subjective, ci rating system was devised. The upper third of the graduating clbss-those who are eligible for National Honor Society-was rated on the basis of the qualifications mentioned above. The students were then ranked from one to thirty-five in order of their rating, and these scores were added together to get the student's standing in these qualifications. J The National Honor Society originated in l92l, and to Edward Rynearson, a graduate of Ohio VVesleyan University, goes much of the credit for the founding of the society. Members of the National Hbnor Society Committee were: Mrs. Patingale, Mr. Graham, Miss Whitted, and Mr. Moist. They were assisted by Mrs. Homer Wyss.
